Apple has just seeded the sixth developer betas for iOS 27 and the rest of this year’s big software updates, and while not much has changed in these latest releases, it seemingly puts the beta cycle back on track as the company prepares for a September public release.

It’s only been a week since Apple released iOS 27 beta 5, but that one only showed up after a three-week hiatus — a delay that’s rather unusual at this stage of development.

It’s far more typical for later betas to speed up rather than slow down as Apple begins to focus on polish instead of more serious bug fixes. A week between betas isn’t at all unusual by the time we reach the fifth or sixth releases, so it’s unclear whether today’s update is making up for lost time or if we’re now on that accelerated schedule.

Either way, this latest release makes it clear we’re in the short strokes. The release notes include a long list of “Resolved Issues,” including an annoying little Messages app bug where the header blocked the top row of pinned conversations, and another one with Shortcuts actions hanging when updating HealthKit records.

The more significant changes this time around can be found in the new macOS 27 Golden Gate beta, which updates the Preview icon to match what Apple did on the iPhone last week, while also tweaking the stoplight window controls and adding thematic day and evening wallpapers to match the sunset and night versions introduced last month.

New betas of iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27, and tvOS 27 were also released today. These appear to have no significant changes so far, but we’re still poring through them so we’ll let you know if we find any.

What’s Coming in iOS 27

While beta 6 doesn’t add anything significantly new, it gets us one step closer to the final release of iOS 27, and a public beta should be arriving within the next day or so to provide early adopters an opportunity to jump in once the developer beta has proven stable.

The most significant update in iOS 27 and the gang is the new Siri AI, at least for those who have an Apple Intelligence–capable device. That’s an iPhone 15 Pro or newer model, an iPad using an M-series or A17 Pro chip, or a Mac with an M-series chip.

The latest iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air models will have access to a more advanced version with expressive voices and more advanced dictation, due to having more RAM available to run Apple’s most powerful on-device AI model. This will naturally also extend to the iPhone 18 Pro models expected to launch next month, although the jury’s still out on the standard iPhone 18, which isn’t expected to arrive until next spring.

The more advanced models will also be available on iPads with an M4 or later chip and Macs with an M3 or later chip, as long as they have 12 GB of RAM.

iOS 27 is also bringing photorealistic AI to Image Playground for AI-capable devices, plus Visual Intelligence in the Camera app, cool new AI editing features in the Photos app, and intelligently summarized videos from HomeKit cameras (but only if you have the right iCloud+ plan).

While older iPhone models won’t get the latest AI features, they’re not being left entirely out of the fun. Apple has done some deep optimization to make iOS 27 run faster on older devices, and there are plenty of other new features that won’t require Apple Intelligence, including custom Wallet passes, Liquid Glass polish, Find My improvements, better app layouts, more powerful Shared Albums, Apple Music upgrades, and more.
