A spate of images allegedly showing “dummy” units of Apple’s upcoming 6.1- and 6.5-inch iPhone models surfaced over the weekend courtesy of a reliable Twitter source, offering us our clearest glimpse yet of Apple’s 2018 iPhone design, while also revealing subtle new details about the differences between them.

The photos were published yesterday by the historically spot-on Benjamin Geskin — a Twitter prodigy who’s previously divulged a wealth of accurate foresight into Apple’s future iPhone plans.

And while the smaller unit pictured is noticeably missing Apple’s signature branding on its backside, all other details about their design line-up and suggest these are the real deal — err, non-functioning placeholders of them, at least.

Shown in crystal-clear detail are Apple’s upcoming 6.1-inch LCD iPhone alongside its larger 6.5-inch OLED-equipped counterpart from various angles — side-by-side and stacked atop one-another in a clear bid to emphasize their size difference.

2018 iPhone Rumored Features

Not pictured is the rumored direct successor to Apple’s 5.8-inch iPhone X, which is widely believed to retain the same dimensions and screen size while boasting upgraded internals like a faster A12 CPU and more.

But from what we can tell, the 6.5-inch OLED iPhone pictured — which Geskin himself refers to as the “iPhone X Plus,” a common nickname for the unannounced phablet coined by iDrop News — appears essentially identical to Apple’s current 5.8-inch iPhone X, complete with the vertically-oriented dual-lens camera system around back.

Most notably, albeit in confirmation of previous reports, the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone appears to boast a single-lens camera, though the lens itself looks much larger in circumference than Apple’s current iPhone camera hardware.

Apple employs premium dual-lens camera systems on its iPhone 7 Plus, 8 Plus, and high-end iPhone X, aimed at offering users premium photography features like Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), 2x optical zoom, and even a dedicated “Portrait” mode.

Meanwhile, the company’s recent 4.7-inch iPhone models have all shipped with single-lens cameras, primarily in a bid to keep costs down while also distinguishing its Plus-branded models on a feature scale.

Assuming that the 6.1-inch dummy iPhone pictured is authentic, it would appear the company is sticking to a similar game-plan this year despite the 2018 iPhone models’ overall advancement in technology and design.

Release Date and Price

Apple is expected to unveil three new iPhone models this September, including a 5.8-inch iPhone X replacement, as well as the 6.1-inch LCD and 6.5-inch OLED models pictured.

The OLED models are expected to arrive sometime in September or October, with the 5.8-inch model starting out at just $899, according to recent analyses, while the 6.5-inch model will start out at $999 like the current iPhone X.

Apple’s 6.1-inch LCD iPhone, meanwhile, is widely believed to represent the company’s “budget offering,” and could cost anywhere between $550 and $700, though rumors currently suggest it won’t launch until November, at the earliest.
