This year’s mid-range LCD iPhone could be offered at a significantly lower price point and sport additional functionality.

The 6.1-inch iPhone, which is rumored to retain the traditional LCD display technology, could come in two variations, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo wrote in a new investor’s note on Thursday.

Kuo predicts that one model could feature dual-SIM capabilities with two physical card slots, while the other would be a standard single-SIM variant. He doesn’t expect either to add eSIM support.

In addition, the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone could occupy a new price tier for Apple’s handset lineup. Kuo says that the single SIM model could retail as low as $550 to $650, while the dual-SIM model could run between $650 to $750.

Previously, a Bloomberg report from earlier this year suggested that Apple was considering dual-SIM capabilities for the so-called iPhone X Plus. Kuo corroborates that rumor and suggests that the 5.8-inch iPhone X successor could be the only device without a dual SIM option in this year’s lineup.

Kuo says that the lower price point of the single-SIM LCD iPhone could “help increase” Apple’s market share in China and other markets. The oft-accurate analyst predicts that Apple could sell between 100 million and 120 million units of the mid-range iPhone between Q3 2018 and Q3 2019.

New iPhones Coming in 2018

Apple is largely expected to release three iPhones this year: a direct 5.8-inch iPhone X successor, an iPhone X Plus with a 6.5-inch OLED, and the aforementioned 6.1-inch LCD iPhone meant to occupy the mid-range segment.

Just a couple weeks ago, RBC Capital Markets analyst Amit Daryanani said that the 6.1-inch handset could make up as much as half of the total iPhone production this year.

Back in February, KGI Securities forecasted that the 6.1-inch iPhone could replace the existing 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch device segment (such as the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus). Kuo added that the mid-range 6.1-inch iPhone might forego 3D Touch support and a dual-lens camera, however.
