The holidays are here, and with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and supply shortages across the world, you may want to get your gift shopping done early—especially if you’re looking to score any kind of electronic device this year.

There’s a good chunk of people with their eye on the latest and greatest tech products from Apple, but they don’t come cheap. While Apple isn’t known for sales, they do happen, and there are plenty of other ways to save on your next high-tech purchase.

Whether you’re looking for a gift for that special someone or just a guilty pleasure for yourself this season, this article has some great tips to help you make dreams a reality and get some extra bang for your buck.

Apple’s Deals and Sales

Apple isn’t a company that’s known for their sales, but every once in a while they surprise us. Whether it’s discounts for students and veterans, refurbished products, or an attempt at Black Friday or Cyber Monday, if you keep your eyes peeled, you might find a way to save a little bit of your hard-earned cash.

  • To check for sales, be sure to check Apple’s website often and consider subscribing to their emails.
  • Apple generally announces sales very close to the time they’re happening, and it’s usually only for Black Friday or Cyber Monday.
  • Don’t expect large discounts though, Apple generally throws in a gift card or a pair of AirPods.

Scroll down to the bottom of Apple’s website and you’ll find multiple links to shop business, military, and education deals. Here you can sometimes find a discount or a deal that bundles a free item. Here are the links:

Apple has one more area you can save, and they’re better savings than you’ll get with their discounts or makeshift sales. I’m referring to their “refurbished and clearance” section, which carries products that are like-new or are previous models that are on sale.

Keep in mind Apple’s discounts aren’t anything major, so keep reading to find other ways to save on Apple gadgets.

Apply for an Apple Card

Apple launched its own credit card, called Apple Card, in 2019. It’s simple to use, made of titanium, supports Apple Pay (duh), and—most importantly—offers 0% interest and up to 3% back on Apple products and services.

In other words, using an Apple Card, you can make payments on your Apple purchase, and get 3% back in Apple Cash. This is a great way to get your gifts without spending all of the money upfront and receive instant cashback.

You can apply for an Apple Card using the Wallet app on your iPhone or you can learn more, here.

Give a Gift Card

Apple gift cards are another great way to give the gift of Apple. An Apple gift card lets you purchase products and accessories from the Apple Store, but it also lets you purchase Apple services and digital products. Giving a gift card is a great way to put money toward a product or let someone purchase or subscribe to the following digital commodities and services:

  1. Apple Music
  2. Apple TV+
  3. Apple Fitness
  4. Apple Arcade
  5. Apple News+
  6. iCloud+
  7. Apple One (includes all of the above)
  8. Podcast subscriptions
  9. Songs on iTunes
  10. Books through the Books app
  11. Apps from the App Store

Again, these gift cards aren’t limited to Apple’s software stores and subscriptions. They can also be used on physical items from the Apple Store.

Shop Around

Since Apple isn’t big on sales, you might be best off shopping around at other retailers. Amazon and Best Buy are some examples of retailers that carry Apple products and put them on sale more often than Apple. Additionally, you may find previous models at great prices. Even iDrop has some great deals.

Buy Preowned

Preowned is another option for finding good deals. Apple products often withstand the test of time and can make a great gift even if they’re used. Shopping Craigslist or eBay can be a great way to find deals, just remember to be cautious and stay safe when buying used products online or in person.

To learn more about the value of a product—and its features—online resources like everymac.com can help you see an estimate of how much products are currently selling for.

Consider Saving Your Money

Purchasing new computers and tech products aren’t always feasible for everyone. Do what’s best for your budget and consider saving your money and enjoying the holidays in a different way! You could also consider saving money throughout the year and looking for deals later as they come along.

At the end of the day, you know your budget and what works best for you. Hopefully, the tips and information we’ve provided can help you make informed decisions when making a purchase.

Thank you for reading. Have a happy, safe, and healthy holiday season!
