Apple today sent out a push notification from its Books app informing people about a new promotion. The company is offering select books and audiobooks, for free, to customers in the United States, and appears to be available only in that country right now. It’s not known if this offer will be extended to other countries in the near future.

Enjoy a good book, on us. Explore free books, read-alongs for kids, cozy mysteries, and audiobooks for the whole family.

Users tapping on the push notification are brought to a “Free Books and Audiobooks” page in the Apple Books store. Users can browse through a variety of genres to find new reading or listening material. There’s also a “First in a Series, Free” tab that highlights book series for those that enjoy multi-book stories.

Apple is likely offering this promotion in response to the coronavirus epidemic in the United States.

Millions of people are confined to their homes and looking for entertainment beyond the TV and video games. Books and audiobooks are an excellent way for both kids and adults to spend their new-found leisure time.

Unlike many free offers that highlight only a few titles, Apple is making quite a few titles available at no cost. You may actually find something new to read or listen to while you hang out at home.

Apple also didn’t say how long these books will remain free, so you may want to check out the sale in the Books app as soon as you can.

If that’s not enough, you can listen to the best parts of thousands of books in just 12 minutes with this app.
