The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus (or Pro) have already been churning the rumor mill for months even though they will not be released until later this fall. However, there are always a few features I catch myself hoping to see in the newest iPhones, but I usually end up disappointed.

As exciting as the release of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will surely be, there are still a number of things on my wish list we probably won’t see.

Wireless Charging

Wireless Charging

Apple is usually not the first to market with new features. Instead the company takes the time to reimagine and polish new technology to make it twice as good as its competitors at launch. Touch ID is a good example and Apple seems to be taking the same strategy with wireless charging.

Currently, wireless charging requires that a device be placed on a charging mat in order to be inductively charged. In 2012 at the iPhone 5 launch event, Apple Senior VP Phil Schiller said, referring to wireless charging mats, “Having to create another device you have to plug into the wall is actually, for most situations, more complicated.”

While I certainly think Apple’s take on wireless charging will be incredible, Schiller’s statements were made in 2012. Surely, the technology should be ready by now but reports are conflicting. Some indicate the technology will be in the iPhone 7, but others still indicate it won’t be ready until 2017. I can only cross my fingers.

Better Battery Life

Battery Life

Generally, I don’t have many positive things to say about Samsung, but with the recent Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, the company did something unprecedented. Their newest flagships are a few millimeters thicker this year for the stated purpose of adding more battery life to the devices.

While Apple did increase the depth of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, it was only to include new technology needed for 3D Touch. It almost seems unfathomable that Apple would go this route, but I sure would prefer it to the awkward battery case Apple released last year.

Waterproofing

Waterproof

Again, giving credit were credit is due, I would love for Apple to catch up with other companies like Samsung and Sony and release an iPhone that can take a dunk in the bathtub or swimming pool. Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are IP68 certified which means they can spend up to 30 minutes submerged in five feet of water.

Right now, I get nervous whenever my iPhone 6s Plus is anywhere in the vicinity of water, and it doesn’t look like Apple plans to change that with the iPhone 7 this fall.

OLED Display

OLED

There is no doubt that Apple will eventually switch to OLED displays, but the change can’t come soon enough. Apple CEO, Tim Cook was notably against the idea of switching to OLED displays a few years ago, but developments in OLED technology make them better options than the iPhone’s current LCD displays.

This is another thing Samsung’s newest phones get right and it should put Apple on notice, but we still may be waiting a few years for the switch.

Don’t get me wrong, I can’t wait for the iPhone 7 and I still think it will be superior to it’s competitors in most ways, but I do wish Apple would bring these features to the iPhone sooner rather than later.
