iPhone 6s Absolutely Demolishes Samsung Galaxy S7 in Head-to-Head Speed Test

In the ever-lasting iOS vs. Android war, manufacturers such as Samsung have long attempted to lure users over to their side by offering incredible specifications in their phones. Some of these phones dwarf the latest iPhone models in RAM and processing power, and many of them beat the iPhones in so-called “benchmark” tests.

However, when compared to the latest iPhone devices in head-to-head, real-world style tests, many of the Android devices fail to hit the mark. In a recent speed test pitting the iPhone 6s Plus against one of Samsung’s most impressive devices, the Galaxy Note 5, the iPhone 6s Plus crushed the Note 5 – beating it by 16 seconds despite having only half the RAM.

Since that test was performed, however, several manufacturers have come out with their latest, most impressive, “iPhone-killing” devices. The Moto X Pure Edition, the Nexus 6P, and Samsung’s Galaxy S7 Edge all boast very impressive specifications. The S7 Edge, for example, sports 4GB of RAM (as opposed to the iPhone 6s Plus’ 2GB), as well as an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. Despite the impressive internals, however, each of these phones also drop the ball when pitted against the iPhone 6s Plus in head-to-head usage tests.

YouTube user Jerome Ortega recently put up a video [see below] showing all four of the phones previously mentioned competing against each other in a real-world style test. With all devices running freshly-installed operating systems, Ortega ran a test which consisted of opening an app, waiting for it to load, and navigating back to the home screen before rapidly opening another app. Ortega completed two “laps” of cycling through the apps before determining a final time for each device.

In the end, the iPhone 6s handily beat all of the competition, finishing both laps with a time of about one minute and 43 seconds. In second place, the Galaxy S7 Edge finished a full 17 seconds later, at almost two minutes flat. The Nexus 6P trailed two seconds behind the S7 Edge, with the Moto X Pure coming in last place at two minutes and sixteen seconds, over thirty seconds behind the iPhone 6s Plus.

This style of speed test is far from perfect – there are many variables, including user error, which can account for discrepancies in times. However, it does give a pretty good representation of real-world style usage. The massive 17-second gap between the 6s and the Galaxy S7 Edge shows two things – that the iOS operating system is still more streamlined, and runs snappier than the Android operating system, and that the hardware gap between the iPhone and higher-end Android devices may not be as large as many Android manufacturers would like you to believe.

And with the iPhone 6s Plus beating out both the Galaxy Note 5 and now the Galaxy S7 Edge, it’s quite likely that the iPhone 6s Plus is still, six months after its release, the fastest smartphone out today.
