Apple has released its third developer beta of iOS 18, which will be released in the fall. That means we can expect Apple to release the first public betas of iOS 18 and its other new operating systems very soon.
To prepare for the upcoming public beta releases of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, watchOS 11, tvOS 18, and HomePod Software 18, Apple is now allowing the public to pre-enroll in the public beta program. This ensures that you and your devices are ready to install the new public beta seeds as soon as they are made available. It’s easy to enroll; here’s how to do it.
Public Beta Enrollment
Enrolling in the Apple public beta will help you prepare to install the iOS 18 public beta on your iPhone and prepare your iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, or HomePod.
New public betas for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, tvOS 18, HomePod software 18 and watchOS 11 are coming soon. As a member of the Apple Beta Software Program, you can take part in shaping Apple software by test-driving pre-release versions and letting us know what you think.
It only takes a few minutes to enroll, and you can do so at the Apple Public Beta Website.
Here’s what to do:
- Go to beta.apple.com using your Apple device (except the HomePod, of course)
- Click or tap the blue “Sign Up” button.
- Sign in with your Apple ID
- Read the Beta Software Program Agreement carefully (Sure, we all do that, right?)
- Click or tap the blue “Agree” button
- Follow the guide for getting beta updates on your device of choice
Once you’ve completed these instructions, your device will be ready once the public betas are released.
Which Public Betas Will Be Available?
Public betas will be available for nearly all of Apple’s devices, with one notable exception. The following public betas are expected to be released this month:
- iOS 18
- iPadOS 18
- macOS Sequoia
- watchOS 11
- tvOS 18
- HomePod software 18
Be sure to read the specific instructions for installing the public beta on each device, which you can find here.
While a public beta will be released for nearly all of Apple’s major device platforms, there is one notable exception. Apple’s Vision Pro will not have a public beta. Apple has limited their visionOS betas to developers only so far, and visionOS 2 will be no exception.
Apple’s upcoming operating systems all offer impressive new features. iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia will include several new artificial intelligence features. The company’s new Apple Intelligence features will offer several new AI-related capabilities, which are designed to protect users’ privacy while also providing many of the AI features that are all the rage at the moment.
With iOS 18, you’ll also get new customization features for the Home Screen, Lock Screen, and Control Center. Users will be able to arrange apps and widgets in any open space on the Home Screen, while app icons and widgets can be resized and customized with a dark or tinted effect.
For the iPad, iPadOS 18 brings something that users have long yearned for: a calculator app. The new app allows users to use Apple’s familiar Calculator app, which has long been available on the iPhone and the Mac, and adds one new exciting feature: Math Notes. The new feature allows users to type or write mathematical equations in their handwriting (using an Apple Pencil) and see the results instantly. Math Notes has the same capabilities as Calculator and can be used in the Notes app.
In addition to Apple Intelligence, macOS Sequoia brings iPhone Mirroring, which allows users to fully access and control their iPhone directly from their Mac. The Mac’s keyboard, trackpad, and mouse can be used to interact with the iPhone.
With watchOS 11, Apple Watch users will get several new features, including new health and workout features, new Activity Rings features, and much more. The new Vitals app allows users to quickly view several key health metrics and gain better context when it comes to their health.
Lastly, tvOS 18 gets a new feature called InSight, which is similar to the X-Ray feature in Amazon Prime Video. The new feature provides an index of actors and music cued to each scene in Apple TV+ shows and movies. The feature can also be used on the iPhone in iOS 18, allowing users to view the InSight information without disturbing other viewers who merely want to enjoy the show.
