The iPhone 16 Is Just around the Corner, and Here’s Everything We Know

Apple’s iPhone 16 lineup is expected to arrive in less than a month, and we couldn’t be more excited. With Apple Intelligence, the new iPhones are bound to be game changers for both Apple and iPhone fans around the world.
The best part is that we don’t have to wait until Apple announces the new iPhone lineup to find out what the company has in store for us.
Thanks to the rumor mill, we already have a pretty solid idea of all the good things the iPhone 16 models will offer. Here’s everything you need to know.
iPhone 16 Design
For the most part, the design of the iPhone 16 lineup shouldn’t be much different from the current iPhone 15 models.
It seems the most significant change will come to the cameras on the back. According to some renders and rumors, Apple will change the design of the camera system on the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models. Instead of the regular square-shaped camera system we already know, Apple will use a pill-shaped design similar to what we saw in the iPhone XS.
The display size will also get a noticeable boost, but only for the iPhone 16 Pro models. Rumor has it that Apple will increase the screen size of the iPhone 16 Pro to 6.3 inches while the iPhone 16 Pro Max will grow to 6.9 inches.
This is a significant change from the 6.1- and 6.7-inch displays we already know, but it will help us more easily distinguish the regular models from the pro models.
iPhone 16 Colors
As usual, there’s no single straight answer about the colors the new iPhones will arrive in. Some rumors say the base iPhone modes will come in seven colors, whereas others say only five colors will be available.
Either way, you should expect at least a blue, green, yellow, pink, black, and white color option for the standard iPhone models. There are also rumors that we might see a light pink and a purple color, but we can’t say for sure at this point.
On the other hand, we don’t know exactly which colors will be available for the iPhone 16 Pro models, but they usually have fewer color variations, with only one unique color joining the more neutral black, white, or gray models. Earlier rumors hinted at a Rose Titanium model for this year’s special color, but more recent reports are leaning toward more of a bronze finish.
The Action Button Is Coming to All iPhones
Another change for the base iPhone models compared to last year’s iPhones is the Action button. In 2023, Apple introduced a new Action button that replaced the volume switch near the top of the iPhone.
This Action button was exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, but it lets you trigger specific actions or shortcuts with a simple press.
As it did in shifting the Dynamic Island from the iPhone 14 Pro to the iPhone 15, it seems Apple will also introduce the Action button to the new base iPhone 16 models.
There Will Also be a New Capture Button
Speaking of new buttons on the iPhone 16, there have been many rumors that Apple will implement a new type of button called a Capture button.
This button is said to be placed on the right side of the iPhone, below the side button. It’ll work as a shutter button, so you can take pictures in landscape mode without having to touch your screen.
Rumors say this button will be available on all iPhone 16 models, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Apple made it a pro-exclusive feature.
Better Chips for All iPhones
According to many rumors and confirmations in iOS 18’s code, Apple will stop using the previous generation’s chip on the new standard iPhone models.
Instead, all iPhone models will come with at least one variation of an A18 chip. We’re expecting Apple to give the Pro models an “A18 Pro” chip that will be more powerful, but there aren’t any rumors confirming this speculation.
All iPhones will likely have more powerful chips because of the new Apple Intelligence technology and features Apple will add near the end of the year.
At the time of this writing, Apple Intelligence only works with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, but it’s clear that it wants to bring it to every new iPhone model going forward — even next year’s iPhone SE is expected to come on board — so the base iPhone 16 models should certainly have enough power to support this new technology.
New AI Features
Speaking of Apple Intelligence, the most significant changes coming to the iPhone will be in the software department.
Apple confirmed during its 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) that Apple Intelligence will be coming later this year as part of iOS 18, although it likely won’t arrive until iOS 18.1 in October.
This new technology will be Apple’s take on AI, making Siri and Apple’s other devices smarter than ever.
For instance, your iPhone, iPad, or Mac will be able to correct anything you write or even compose new stuff for you. It can also create summaries of very long texts and make your emails sound more professional.
Siri will even understand the context of whatever is on your screen or anything your friends and family send you, making it easier to ask Siri for reminders on important dates or events with your loved ones. Those features aren’t expected to show up until iOS 18.4 early next year, but the iPhone 16 will be ready for them when they do.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg, but thanks to the new processor on the iPhone 16, we’ll see many new AI features coming in the next few months.
iPhone 16 Battery
Apple will also improve the battery in the iPhone 16 lineup. Despite the rumors that Apple plans to make all its devices thinner than ever — as it did with the new 2024 M4 iPad Pro models — rumor has it that the company will slightly increase the battery size on most of its iPhone 16 models.
Of course, not all of this is good news, especially for fans of the iPhone 16 Plus. If the rumors are true, Apple may decrease its size by up to 9%.
According to the rumors, the base iPhone 16 will have a 3,561 mAh battery, which is around 6% bigger than the 3,349 mAh battery of the iPhone 15. The iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max will now have 3,355 mAh and 4,676 mAh batteries, respectively. Again, this is a decent upgrade from the 3,274 mAh and 4,422 mAh batteries the current iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max come with.
The iPhone 16 Plus, on the other hand, might get a smaller battery. The current iPhone 15 Plus has a 4,383 mAh battery, whereas the iPhone 16 Plus is rumored to have a 4,006 mAh battery, which isn’t necessarily good news.
It does make sense, though, as the current iPhone 15 Plus’s battery life is sometimes even better than the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s. Still, it’s bad news for people who wanted the bigger base iPhone this year. However, that may be a small group, as several reports have suggested this will be the last year we see the standard Plus model in the lineup.
Faster Charging Times for the iPhone 16 Pro Models
Another rumor suggests that Apple will finally make the iPhone Pro models charge faster than before.
Rumor has it that the iPhone 16 Pro models will support 40W wired charging and 20W MagSafe charging, which would be a significant upgrade. For comparison, the current iPhone 15 Pro models support 27W wired charging and 15W MagSafe charging.
iPhone 16 Release Date and Price
Regarding the release date, we expect Apple to continue with its tradition of announcing the new iPhone models in September. While we don’t know the exact date yet, some rumors say we might see it on September 10.
We expect to see a price increase this year. Unfortunately, the components of the iPhone 15 increased in price last year, but Apple decided to take the loss for most iPhone models.
Unfortunately, that probably won’t happen this year, so we expect a price increase. While there aren’t exact rumors about how much they will cost, analysts are predicting at least a $100 price bump.
Get Ready for the iPhone 16
The iPhone 16 is just around the corner, which means it’s time to get ready to make an upgrade. Since this year’s iPhone will be the first one to support Apple Intelligence, you’ll probably need to upgrade to enjoy all of Apple’s latest AI features.
So, start saving up some money and get ready for Apple’s upcoming event, which should happen sometime in September.
