Ted Lasso Season 4 Reportedly Set to Begin Filming Early Next Year

Over the past few months, we’ve seen some oblique hints that Apple’s highly acclaimed Ted Lasso could be poised for a comeback, and now it looks like season 4 is set to begin the first stages of production in January.
While Ted Lasso was supposedly written as a three-season arc from the start, it seems nobody was committed to fully closing the door on the Emmy award-winning series. Season 3 wrapped in May 2023, but even then, folks were hesitant to call it a “series finale.”
Star Jason Sudeikis, who portrays the eponymous Ted, strongly implied that season 3 would finish the series but stopped short of actually saying that outright, instead calling it “the end of this story that we wanted to tell.” The finale wrapped things up nicely, but that doesn’t mean the door wasn’t open to tell other stories in the Lasso-verse.
After all, Ted Lasso is one of the biggest hits to grace Apple TV+ in the five years it’s been running. While it wasn’t solely an Apple project — Warner Bros. Was the studio behind it — the show brought in record viewers and became the most nominated freshman comedy series in Emmy Awards history (beating out 2010’s Glee). It went on to land an Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series, plus three others for outstanding lead and supporting actors, and three more for editing, sound mixing, and casting.
The latest news comes from MacStories writer and podcaster Sigmund Judge, who has been told by sources that season 4 is confirmed and will begin pre-production in January, with shooting expected to start not long after.
While it remains unclear what form a new Ted Lasso will take, an August report revealed that Warner Bros. Television had picked up options on the three key cast members who are part of a UK acting union: Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins). The studio was expected to follow that by reaching out to SAG-AFTRA members such as Juno Temple (Keeley Jones).
The studio would also have to sign new deals with stars Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso) and Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard) not only for their on-screen roles but also because both are co-creators and executive producers of the series. Over the summer, fellow co-creator Bill Lawrence told Collider that the whole deal was ultimately “all up to Jason Sudeikis.”

That’s not only because he’s the head writer and star, but “he’s also the dude whose life just has to be completely overhauled and moved to a foreign country with young children,” Lawrence said. As a result, there’s been speculation on how much we’ll see of Ted Lasso in a season 4 revival. Judge’s sources don’t have confirmation yet on how involved Sudeikis will be, but they have confirmed that this is indeed a fourth season of Ted Lasso and not a spin-off.
Another face not expected to return is Jamie Tart. Phil Dunster, the actor who portrayed AFC Richmond’s divo Striker, is busy on other projects, including Prime Video’s The Devil’s House and Apple’s Surface. However, guest appearances may not be out of the question.
Apple and Warner Bros. have yet to confirm anything, so there’s no word on when Ted Lasso will return. However, Deadline reported in August that they were working out the budget and preparing to open a writers’ room, so it seems everything is moving forward as planned.
