It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since Apple introduced its original iPod. The device transformed the MP3 player market, but interest in the device has waned as the iPhone became the music player of choice. Not one to forget a memorable date, Apple is rumored to be working on a refresh of the iPod for the music player’s 20th anniversary.

What does Apple have in store? Twitter user AppleLe257 has a few ideas.

According to AppleLe257, Apple may redo the iPod touch with six new finishes and a complete design overhaul.

Apple likely is removing the iPod touch’s existing rounded edges and replacing them with a boxy look similar to the iPhone 13.

It’s also dropping the word “touch,” while adding a splash of colors, including silver, red, gold, black, and a light blue.

Apple last updated the iPod touch in 2019, so the device is overdue for a refresh. It’s not known when the 8th generation iPod touch will be released, but Apple Tomorrow notes that the current iPod touch 7th generation is out of stock in many stores.

Typically, Apple clears the existing inventory of a device before introducing a new model. Most recently, the company clearanced the HomePod before introducing the HomePod mini a few months later.
