It’s not often that Apple brings back a device that’s been long forgotten by both the company and most of the public. But it seems like that’s going to change very soon. Or at least, that’s what the rumors are saying.

According to iOS developer and writer Steve Moser, we’ve seen what seems to be the first look at the upcoming 2021 iPod touch. Moser shared that Apple’s supposedly planning to release a new iPod touch lineup later this year.

In November 2020, Apple added ‘iPod touch’ to their Apple Music PR blurb. Well now we know why. This Fall Apple is planning to release the next version of the iPod touch.

Although it’s too early to know what the iPod touch will look like, Moser also shared a few rendered images that show the iPod touch with a much boxier look, similar to what Apple has done with the iPhone 12 and the iPad Pro.

Likewise, the renders show the new iPod touch in five different colors: Black, Green, Red, Purple, and Blue, with an extra Space Gray variant.

It’s worth mentioning that, as Moser puts it, this should be treated as a rumor and not a leak, so you should take this with a grain of salt.

Looking back at the previous iPod touch releases, Apple usually takes between three and five years to launch a new iPod touch. Since the most recently updated iPod touch was released a little less than two years ago, it’s possible that Apple might wait longer before announcing a new device.

The seventh-generation iPod touch was released back in 2019 with no major changes in its design. The biggest change Apple made was upgrading the processor inside to an A10 chip so it could support new software updates.

This isn’t the first new product Steve Moser revealed recently. Just earlier this week, Moser revealed that Apple might be working on a new set of Beats Studio Buds that will fit snuggly inside the user’s ears.
