Multiple reports have converged around the idea that Apple will introduce three new iPhone models this fall — a revamped 5.8-inch iPhone X, a 6.1-inch LCD iPhone model, and a much larger, 6.5-inch OLED iPhone model dubbed iPhone X Plus — all of which will allegedly flaunt advanced, Face ID technology and iPhone X styling.

On Monday morning, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman published a new report in which he and his colleague echoed those sentiments, indicating that Apple is in fact “preparing to release a trio of new smartphones” this fall. They cite “people” with knowledge of the company’s ongoing product development plans, who requested anonymity to discuss them freely.

Apple is “already running production tests” on these new models in conjunction with some of its Far East component suppliers, sources say, adding that, with its impending iPhone lineup “Apple is seeking to rekindle sales by offering a model for everyone.”

iPhone X Plus

“With a screen close to 6.5 inches, Apple’s big new handset will be one of the largest mainstream smartphones on the market,” Gurman said. “While the body of the phone will be about the same size as the iPhone 8 Plus, the screen will be about an inch larger thanks to the edge-to-edge design used in the iPhone X.”

Internally, this 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus model was codenamed D33, according to sources who went on to add that “at least some” prototypes of the unit boast a screen resolution of 1242 x 2688. Notably, this would render it on par, in terms of pixel count, with the current generation iPhone X’s 458 pixels per inch (ppi).

iPhone X2?

In addition to the iPhone X Plus, Apple is working on a similar-sized, 5.8-inch replacement for the current-generation iPhone X (which will be discontinued by later on this fall, according to KGI’ Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo).

Internally, this smaller model is being referred to as D32, sources say, while both 5.8- and 6.5-inch models will be powered by Apple’s next-generation A12 System on a Chip (SoC) and “will continue to include stainless steel edges,” as well.

Gold Color Options

Apple is also said to at least be “considering” a Gold color option for both the 5.8- and 6.5-inch iPhone models, which would certainly be welcomed by many as it’s long overdue..

Last year, Apple was rumored to be working on a gorgeous Copper-tinged Blush Gold color option for its high-end iPhone X. However those plans were ultimately scuttled, Bloomberg said, due to unspecified “production problems.”

Notably, since the iPhone 5s Apple has offered a Gold color option of every iPhone model, including the iPhone 8 but excluding the iPhone X. Bloomberg notes, however, that while the company could once again disappoint us by scrapping its plans for a Gold iPhone this year, moving ahead with it could prove financially beneficial to the company.

In Asia, which is one of Apple largest (and largely untapped) international markets, Gold is seen as a particularly appealing hue among most consumers who’re willing to spend the money.

An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment on today’s report, however it’s worth pointing out that Apple’s Stock (NASDAQ; AAPL) gained roughly 2% in value during Monday trading.
