T-Mobile on Monday morning announced that it will begin doling out free AppleCare+ coverage to new iOS device customers who opt into monthly insurance through the Un-carrier’s ‘Jump’ or Premium Device Protection plans.

“More good news for Un-carrier customers who love their iPhone and iPad,” the company said via its official press release. “T-Mobile today became the first national wireless company to give customers AppleCare Services at ZERO additional cost as part of its Premium Device Protection services—because the best devices in the world deserve the best protection and care.”

To sum it up, if you purchase a new iPhone or iPad with service on T-Mobile’s U.S. network and opt to enroll in either the ‘Jump’ or Premium Device Protection plans, you’ll be given AppleCare+ protection free of charge.

Both ‘Jump’ and Premium Device Protection offerings from T-Mobile run $12 per month, and encompass a bevy of services including loss, theft, and accidental damage protection — with deductibles maxing out at $175 per claim on the most recent devices.

AppleCare+ for iPhone, in comparison, costs a one-time fee of $129, and boasts a number of additional features — including $29 screen repairs, $0 battery replacements, the ability to have your device serviced at an Apple Store or Apple authorized service provider, 24/7 technical support from Apple, as well as a long list of other services outlined by the AppleCare+ terms and conditions.

The only caveat to the deal is that the gratis AppleCare+ protection is only being offered to customers who buy a new iPhone or iPad, associated with a new or existing plan on T-Mobile.

Most notably, under the terms of this new arrangement, you’ll be getting much more protection for your money. For instance, AppleCare+ does not cover loss or theft protection — although it does cover minor screen repairs and battery replacements for up to two years at very little cost to you; while ‘Jump’ or Premium Device Protection via T-Mobile, on the other hand, does offer loss or theft coverage. So it’s a win-win situation, either way you slice it.

At $12 per month, the Un-carrier’s most premium mobile protection plans will cost you around $288 over the course of two years.
