Apple has reportedly suffered a major leak that may have revealed key details about its 2018 iPhone and Apple Watch devices.

The Cupertino, California firm apparently leaked images of its upcoming iPhone and Apple Watch refreshes. These images — as well as other details about the new devices — were obtained and published by Apple news site 9to5Mac on Thursday.

iPhone XS

The leaked iPhone image reportedly shows the two premium OLED handsets that Apple is widely expected to debut next month.

Notably, the images seem to confirm the existence of a gold color for the new premium OLED handsets. It’s likely that his gold color was hinted at in Apple’s press invites. While Apple was rumored to be working on a gold iPhone X, production delays snarled the release of that device last year.

Interestingly, 9to5Mac reports that the leak suggests Apple will call both devices the iPhone XS. That’s an unusual move for the company, which has typically used unique monikers for its handsets.

But it’s not without precedent. Both of Apple’s 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro devices are also simply called “iPad Pro.” A Bloomberg report from earlier this month suggested Apple was struggling with this year’s naming scheme.

Based on the latest rumors, the two premium OLED devices will sport a 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch display, respectively. A third iPhone with a 6.1-inch LCD display and a lower price point is expected to round out the 2018 lineup.

All three are expected to feature edge-to-edge displays with extremely slim bezels, no Home button, and Face ID.

Apple Watch Series 4

Alongside the iPhone XS images, 9to5Mac also released leaked photos of what could be the Apple Watch Series 4.

The images appear to depict an Apple Watch with slimmer bezels, which could allow for the 15 percent larger display that previous rumors have suggested.

That larger display also seems to allow for a new Watch face with a more information-dense, round configuration. Again, that may have been hinted at in Apple’s fall keynote press invites.

Apple will probably unveil the new watch face as part of the S4 announcement. Said face appears to support around eight complications, including four on the face itself and another four around the edges of the larger display.

As far as smaller differences, a new hole near the Digital Crown could suggest the placement of another microphone. The Crown itself is also indicated by a red outline, rather than a full colored dot.

The leaked Apple Watch also appears to be in a shiny gold enclosure, which could suggest a new stainless steel case with a gold finish. That would line up with the gold option for the iPhone XS and the gold color scheme of Apple’s press invites.

In addition to a larger display, analysts have predicted that the Apple Watch S4 could sport upgraded internals and a 15 percent larger battery.

When Will These Be Announced?

Earlier today, Apple sent out media invitations for a “Gather round” event that will take place 10 a.m. Pacific Time on Sept. 12 at the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park.

While the company did not elaborate on the nature of the event, previous rumors indicated that the second Wednesday of September was the most likely date for Apple’s annual fall keynote.

In other words, based on the timing and historical patterns, it’s incredibly likely Apple will unveil the new iPhones and Apple Watches on Sept. 12.

Apple is also expected to unveil new iPad Pro models; refreshed Mac products; and its long-awaited AirPower charging mat and upgraded AirPods case.
