Apple Arcade often gets unfairly criticized for having a middling assortment of titles. However, it’s also been home to some AAA console-caliber games that make it well worth the monthly price of admission.
After all, when Apple announced its subscription gaming service in 2019, it did so with a partnership with no less of a luminary than Hironobu Sakaguchi, famed creator of the Final Fantasy franchise, to develop an exclusive, never-before-seen game for Apple Arcade.
Sakaguchi’s Fantasian took another two years to debut, but it took the world by storm when it finally did arrive. Designed with over 150 handcrafted physical diorama models, it was an epic work of art inspired by the creator’s replaying of Final Fantasy VI — and it showed.
Apple didn’t stop there. Titles such as NBA 2K21 Arcade Edition kicked off an annual series of games for basketball fans, with new updates each year, culminating most recently in the NBA 2K25 Arcade Edition with outdoor streetball courts and the ability to recruit NBA Legends to join your squad.
Now, Apple is exploring a new genre of console-quality sports titles with the Arcade-exclusive PGA TOUR Pro Golf.
It’s the first PGA game to come to Apple Arcade, and it’s everything you’d expect from a console-level golf game. At launch, you’ll be able to tee off on seven iconic championship golf courses, including Pebble Beach, Spanish Bay, Spyglass Hill, Firestone, Bay Hill, Harbour Town, and Latrobe. Apple also promises there are more on the way, and as an Apple Arcade title, these will be added at no additional cost.
This is one of the key points that’s always made Apple Arcade unique. Your monthly subscription fee covers everything in the games that are available. There are no ads and no in-app purchases. Outside of Apple Arcade, we could see a title like this charging to unlock additional courses and gear, but that can’t happen with an Apple Arcade title because Apple doesn’t allow it.
Take your best shot on the world’s most iconic golf courses with PGA TOUR Pro Golf, an Apple Arcade exclusive that brings the thrill of professional golf to your fingertips. Compete, upgrade, and rise to the top in this immersive golf experience.
PGA TOUR Pro Golf isn’t just about running through courses on your own. That’s still an option, but you can also compete in real-time against other digital golfers in a simultaneous head-to-head mode that keeps the action going. This isn’t your typical turn-based golf play since you don’t need to wait for the player before you to clear their virtual green.
You can also compete against others on more traditional leaderboards through multi-round tournaments that help you challenge yourself and earn rewards and digital cash. These can then be used to upgrade your clubs and other gear.
PGA TOUR Pro Golf will be available on Apple Arcade for Mac, iPad, iPhone, and Apple TV next Thursday, February 6, 2025. However, the landing page for it is already live, so you can head over there and tap Get to be notified and have it automatically installed when it becomes available.
