Samsung says it is halting shipments of its Galaxy Note 7 after several reports of the device exploding while charging.

The Korean firm told Reuters that shipments will be delayed until they can carry out additional quality control testing for their newest device. Additionally, in the statement to Reuters, Samsung did not elaborate why the phones are being delayed, or what exactly they are testing for. But due to the circumstances, it seems that the company is not taking rumors of exploding phones lightly.

Local media in South Korea have published several unconfirmed reports about Galaxy Note 7 batteries exploding while being connected to a charger, according to Gizmodo. Several news outlets have theorized that a faulty USB-C charging cable might be responsible for the incidents — and some have reported that the owners of the exploding phones were likely using non-original cables, according to AndroidCommunity. Nobody was harmed in either exploding phone incident, according to local media.

The Galaxy Note 7 launched in South Korea and other Asian markets earlier this month. A general rollout of Samsung’s newest flagship was already underway, and was slated to be released in the US on Sept. 2. But now, Samsung has stopped supplying the new flagship to local carriers — even though some preorders have yet to be shipped out, according to BGR.

Previously, Samsung announced that high demand for the device might create a supply shortage — ultimately delaying the phone’s launch in some markets, according to Reuters.

It remains to be seen if these reports of exploding batteries, and this delay in shipment, could hurt the Galaxy Note 7’s market performance. But in the meantime, sales of the device haven’t halted — and the phone is still being bought.

So, until Samsung figures out if these were isolated incidents or a problem with all models of the device, Note 7 owners should keep a close eye on their phones — and should only use official Samsung charging cables to power up their handset.
