A little over a year after its unveiling, and yet just days after its successor was shown off on stage alongside powerful new iPhones and an upgraded Apple TV, Cupertino appears to have officially discontinued its second-generation wearable — the Apple Watch Series 2, going so far as to remove all traces of it from the company’s online store as of Thursday morning. It’s not clear if (or for how long) the Apple Watch S2 will continue being offered in Apple Stores, but we wouldn’t hold our breath.

Currently, the company is offering the Apple Watch Series 1 as a more affordable alternative to the recently unveiled Apple Watch Series 3, and it’s believed that the Series 1 will stick around as a permanent, lower-tier offering for just $249.

The Apple Watch Series 3, meanwhile, will replace the Series 2, and will be available starting at $329 for a non-LTE model or $399 for an LTE-equipped variant. They’ll both go up for pre-order beginning this Friday, September 15, with the first orders shipping by the 22nd.

But What About the Apple Watch S2?

Of course, while Apple’s second-generation wearable offered a myriad of enhancements over the Series 1, including a brighter display, faster dual-core CPU, GPS chip, bigger battery and ‘swim-proof’ water-resistance, it’s certainly worth noting that the Apple Watch Series 3 will offer all of those features and then some.

Notably, Apple’s Watch S3 will boast an improved display, an even faster dual-core CPU than the Watch S2, and an optional LTE chip that will allow it to function akin to your iPhone in its absence. Unfortunately, these LTE only features and advancements will come at an additional cost of around $10 per month in excess of the $400 buy-in price.

If you were hoping to snag an Apple Watch Series 2 before or shortly after the Series 3 came out, meanwhile, you may be out of luck. Of course, you could always try searching around some third-party channels like Amazon, eBay, Best Buy or others to see if they still have stock. Otherwise, the Series 1 and Series 3 Apple Watches are now your only means of adopting Cupertino’s wearable.
