Although Silo Season 2 wrapped on January 17, fans of the show can now enjoy an extended video walkthrough of the world of the series, thanks to a new “meditative tour” that Apple has just published on its Apple TV+ YouTube channel.

Silo is a dystopian sci-fi series based on a trilogy by Hugh Howey that takes us into the lives of a mysterious community of 10,000 people living in a giant underground 144-story bunker (or “silo”) who know very little about why they’re there. All they know is that it’s unsafe to go outside.

Howey wrote the first novel in the series, Wool, in 2011, and while there was an attempt to adapt it for film in 2012, that project never got off the ground. Instead, Apple picked it up in 2021 and debuted the first season in May 2023. The series was adapted for TV by Graham Yost, known for his work on films like Speed, Broken Arrow, and Hard Rain, and for Apple TV+ hits such as Slow Horses and Masters of the Air.

Season 1 begins in a sort of prologue that tells the story of Allison Becker, an IT specialist played by Rashida Jones, who becomes disillusioned with life inside the silo and, through various circumstances, comes to believe that the outside world is not as it seems. She’s eventually exiled from the silo at her own request, followed sometime later by her husband, who serves as the sheriff of the silo. By the third episode, the story moves on to the main character, Juliette Nichols, portrayed by Rebecca Ferguson, who goes from an engineer in mechanical to being thrust into the role of sheriff and the center of the forbidden mysteries of the silo.

(Warning: Minor Season 2 spoilers ahead)

Last November, Season 2 picked up on that thread, adding a few new cast members, including Steve Zahn as an enigmatic recluse that Juliette encounters in her travels to another silo, which she eventually comes to know as Silo 17, as compared to her home, which is Silo 18.

The nearly 24-minute long video shared by Apple provides a virtual walkthrough of both Silo 17 and Silo 18, even juxtaposing scenes from both at key points, such as scenes that compare the vaults of both silos (there are definitely spoilers in here, so don’t watch this video if you haven’t finished Season 2).

While Howey wrote three books, Seasons 1 and 2 of Silo only cover part of the first book, Wool. Like most TV adaptations, there are also some notable differences, although Yost stays reasonably faithful to the source material.

Apple has already renewed Silo for two more seasons, which we imagine will cover the remainder of Wool and delve into the second book, Shift, which is mostly a prequel that explains how the silos came to be (which is also hinted at in the last few minutes of the final episode). The fourth season will presumably cover the events of the third book, Dust, although it’s too early to tell what direction it’s going to take.

There’s no word on when we’ll see the next season, although fans can at least be encouraged that there’s one in the works. In the meantime, Apple’s meditative tour is an excellent way to re-live your favorite moments from the series in a whole new way. Plus, the lighting is much better than it was in the show, which tended to lean too much to the darker side, so it may be worth sitting through the video just to get a better idea of what the sets truly look like.
