Credible Source Affirms Two Exciting New Features for iPhone 7

The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are scheduled to be released this fall, and there have been plenty of rumors about the device’s features and what it will look like. A recent report published by Japanese website Mac Otakara confirms many of the rumors for the iPhone 7 that have been floating around lately.
Their report includes images of the forthcoming iPhone that look very interesting indeed, and more importantly, they show off two important new features – a dual camera apparatus and a Smart Connector.
The Smart Connector on an iPhone is an interesting inclusion – while it made sense to put one on the iPad Pro to accommodate for a keyboard, we’re curious to see how it will be used on the iPhone. It could also be used for a keyboard on the iPhone, for sure, and rumors actually point to a Smart Keyboard being built for the iPhone. And, of course, it’s certainly possible that Apple has entirely different plans for the iPhone 7, creating a range of Smart Connector capable accessories that we can only imagine at this point. The Mac Otakara report suggests that there’s a high possibility that the Smart Connector will be included in the iPhone 7.
Another prominent rumor for the iPhone 7 is that it will not include a headphone jack. While some reports indicate that Apple will use the extra space as an opportunity to introduce stereo speakers in the device, the report from Mac Otakara suggests that the iPhone 7 will actually still be a single-speaker phone. Because of the lack of headphone jack, Apple will be looking into other ways to deliver audio, and the report suggest that the company will include two ‘EarPods’ with the iPhone, which will connect over Bluetooth and charge in a similar way to the Apple Pencil.
The fact that Apple is removing the headphone jack from the iPhone is certainly a decision that will raise controversy. A headphone jack has long been the standard for audio listening, and while Bluetooth headphones have been on the market for a while now, many have been resistant to the change. If Apple gets rid of the headphone jack, it will likely start a complete change in the way we consume music, and could cause other manufacturers to adopt the Bluetooth-only concept too.
Of course, customers can also listen to music through Lightning headphones, of which there are sure to be many that will become available as time goes on. In fact, listening to music through the Lightning port may actually lead to a better listening experience considering the fact that it will enable for higher quality headphone amplifiers to be built straight into the headphones, which will draw power from the Lightning connection, something that wasn’t possible with the 3.5mm headphone jack.
Still, any controversy likely to erupt due to the removal of the headphone jack will blow over. Similar frustration arose among customers when Apple introduced the Lightning conductor, leaving customers without a way to use their older accessories.
Next up is the fact that the iPhone 7 could include a dual camera, which is reaffirmed by the Mac Otakara report. If the leaks prove to be correct, it seems as though Apple will unfortunately be keeping the camera bump similar to the one on the iPhone 6s.
We can also see two mysterious sensors at the top of the iPhone. It’s unknown exactly what they will be used for, however some reports indicate that they may be used in conjunction with Apple’s True Tone technology being brought to the iPhone. The technology was first introduced in the iPad Pro, and that device also relies on two sensors.
Finally, it seems as though the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be almost identical in size to their predecessors, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. While some reports have said that the iPhone 7 would be a lot thinner, the Mac Otakara report instead suggests that the iPhone 7 will have the same thinness.
The iPhone 7 is expected to launch sometime in September, and will likely have the same price tag as the current flagship iPhones, which start at $649.
