Apple is expected to debut its next-generation iPad Pro models in the next month or so, and we continue to hear rumors about what we can expect from the new tablets.

According to the Weibo leaker known as Instant Digital, we can expect to see a new matte display option in addition to the standard glossy finish used today on the iPad Pro. Instant Digital also says the next-generation iPad Pro will feature thinner screen bezels compared to previous models.

iPad Pro Matte Display Option

Instant Digital says the upcoming iPad Pro’s new matte display option will be available alongside the current model’s standard glossy finish. The Weibo leaker claims the new display option features -4° to +29° of haze and may include some type of blue-light blocking technology to help protect the user’s eyes.

It isn’t known whether the matte display option will use the same “nano-texture” glass as the Pro Display XDR and Studio Display. Nano-texture glass offers a matte finish that scatters light to minimize glare, making it a good solution for brightly lit environments.

While matte screen protectors for the iPad are a popular item, thanks to their ability to reduce reflections, they have the side effect of making the images on the screen slightly dull and hazy. However, nano-texture glass offers an etched surface that helps to preserve image quality.

Nano-texture glass is admittedly harder to clean properly, as its textured surface holds on to oil and debris. Apple has cautioned users to only clean the displays with a soft, non-abrasive polishing cloth.

While it is possible that the matte display option may also be an option for the next-generation iPad Air models, the leaker could not confirm if it will be offered on the Air.

The leaker expects the new iPad models to be announced next week.

iPad Pro Thinner Bezels

Instant Digital also claims that the upcoming iPad Pro models will feature thinner screen bezels when compared to previous models.

The leaker says the new 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models will sport 7.12mm and 7.08mm bezels, respectively, when excluding the metal edges of the devices. If accurate, that means the new iPad Pro tablets would have bezels approximately 10 to 15% thinner than previous iPad Pro models.

Instant Digital has a mixed track record for revealing accurate information about Apple’s plans, so we’ll need to wait to see what happens.

The upcoming iPad Pro models are rumored to include several new and updated features, including the latest M3 chip, a thinner body, a landscape-oriented front camera, a redesigned rear camera, and possibly MagSafe charging. In addition to new iPad Pro and iPad Air models, we’re also expecting to see a revamped Magic Keyboard sporting a partially aluminum enclosure, as well as an updated Apple Pencil.

While various dates have been tossed around for the debut of the new iPads. Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants has said the new iPad Pro models will likely debut late this month or early April. Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman has said the new iPad Pro models might not ship until “deeper” into April.
