Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Launch Delayed, But Not as Long as the iPhone 8

Although it was previously reported that Samsung’s high-end Galaxy Note 8 would be unveiled at the end of August (with the intent of beating Apple’s iPhone 8 to market), a report published by DigiTimes suggests that while an August unveiling is still imminent, the Note 8 likely won’t begin shipping to customers in key markets until September “at the earliest.”
DigiTimes, citing a number of upstream component suppliers within Samsung’s Taiwanese supply chain, goes on to allege that the South Korean-company is still expected to beat the iPhone 8 to market when all is said and done.
Recent reports peg the iPhone 8’s unveiling for September 2017 (alongside the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus) however, a stream of recent issues with the high-end flagship’s development have resulted in Apple facing an actual launch potentially as late as November or December.

Recent rumors hint that the Galaxy Note 8 will feature a design similar to that of the Galaxy S8 and S8+Â that launched earlier this year. The device will feature a larger AMOLED display, which could measure somewhere between 6.3- and 6.5-inches. Other key specifications are rumored to include 6 GB of RAM, 64 GB or 128 GB of onboard storage, IP68 water- and dust-proof certification, wireless charging, a 3,300 mAh battery, and Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 SoC. Additionally, the Note 8 is slated to feature Samsung’s first dual-lens camera system around back, which will boast a pair of 12 MP sensors with advanced optical image stabilization capabilities similar to Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus.

The phablet will run Google’s latest version of Android (v7.1 Nougat), and much akin to all the Galaxy Note devices before it, Samsung’s latest will also include the company’s S-Pen as its cornerstone feature — which is likely to be enhanced this year by newer software advancements including translation, currency conversion, and note-pinning functionalities.
The Note 8 will be Samsung’s latest, internationally-available Note device since the doomed-to-ashed Galaxy Note 7Â was released (and abruptly discontinued) last summer. Ironically, while Samsung appears to be playing the same “beat Apple to the punch” game it did last year, which ultimately backfired on the company tremendously, it also appears that the South Korean Galaxy-maker will take an extra few weeks this year to ensure that history doesn’t repeat itself.
