Rumors of changes to Apple’s earbud lineup have been circulating fiercely. Not only is the company expected to upgrade its AirPods, but rumors also suggest the company is working on version two of its Powerbeats Pro earbuds.

The latest report to hit the rumor mill claims the upgrade may be a minor tweak that is quietly released without an announcement instead of a major overhaul.

A report from MacRumors points to regulatory documents filed in Malaysia and South Korea for the source of this rumor. These organizational documents detail a pair of Apple earbuds that resemble the company’s Powerbeats Pro. The illustrations in the document label the left earpiece as A2453 and the right earpiece as A2454. Frequently these documents hint at new models, but that might not be the case this time.

These model numbers apparently are not new for Apple. The Cupertino company lists these model numbers on its website alongside a link to a Declarations of Conformity document. These model numbers also appear throughout the document, which is required by the European Union for compliance purposes. These model numbers raise a red flag as they are public and assigned to an existing Powerbeats Pro. They are not kept secret as you would expect for a not-yet-announced device.

It’s been more than a month since the first regulatory filings debuted, and Apple has been mum on any updates to its Powerbeats Pro. Instead of new models, it is possible these documents hint at a minor tweak to the wireless earbuds. This small update could rollout silently as Apple gradually replaces the existing Powerbeats Pro models on retail shelves.

This doesn’t mean Apple isn’t working on new Powerbeats Pro, they just might be something we see later down the line instead of sooner.
