Rumors are abundant in the Apple universe and the newest one suggests the iPhone 7 will have a larger capacity battery. If true, iPhone users will be able to charge less and play more.

Neil Hughes from AppleInsider suggests the iPhone 7 will have a 14% longer lasting battery than the one employed in the iPhone 6s.

The supposed 1960mAh battery would be a significant upgrade over the iPhone 6s which Hughes writes, “features a battery capacity of 1715mAh, while its predecessor, the iPhone 6, was slightly larger at 1810mAh, despite both featuring the same 4.7-inch display.”

The iPhone battery has improved over the previous iterations of Apple’s smartphone, but people still complain about the battery life. The best way to improve battery life at this point in time is to increase its size, however it may seem next to impossible to put a bigger battery in such a thin phone. Hughes points out that it is possible Apple could shrink or remove some of the internal components (i.e. headphone jack) to make room for a larger capacity battery.

“There hasn’t been any indication how big the battery in Apple’s anticipated 5.5-inch ‘iPhone 7 Plus’ might be. The iPhone 6s Plus has a battery size of 2750mAh, while the iPhone 6 plus is rated at 2915mAh,” writes Hughes. Apples has suggested that the smaller battery capacity from the previous generation did not shorten battery life for the current generation of iPhone since the company made iOS more energy efficient.

A larger battery in the iPhone 7 might be a good selling point, assuming the increase in capacity isn’t to satisfy new power hogging components. There is talk of a dual camera this year, which likely will require more power. If true, the iPhone 7 may not have a battery life much different than the current generation of the phone, unless Apple can manage to release battery saving software updates to compensate.
