And the iPhone 7 rumor mill just keeps on spinning! This time, sources within Apple’s far east supply chains have indicated that the Cupertino-company’s forthcoming handset — known now as ‘iPhone 7’, will retain the relative dimensions of its predecessor, the iPhone 6s. Although the device will reportedly feature a thinner display panel, as well as the omission of any waterproofing technology.

As originally reported by the popular Japanese Blog, Macotokara, Apple’s forthcoming ‘iPhone 7’ handset will retain the same height and width dimensions of the iPhone 6s. However, as KGI Securities’ analyst, Ming Chi Kuo, has correctly predicted before, the iPhone 7 will be roughly 1 millimeter thinner thanks to a redesigned display technology that sheds about that much thickness off the frame.

The publication’s prediction, however, that Apple will ultimately embrace a new waterproofing material to employ in the next iPhone is false. Instead, the iPhone 7 will retain the same level of water resistance as that of the iPhone 6s’ metallic chassis design.

On another note, Macotokara has reiterated claims that the forthcoming iPhone’s rear-facing camera will be flush with the phone’s metal casing, which would be reversing from a years-long design faux-pas playfully referred to as the “camera bump” on iPhone 6 and 6s. Not so clear from the report, however, is the potential integration of a rumored dual-camera system designed by Apple’s recently acquired imaging firm LinX.

The Macotokara report also goes on to claim that the smaller, 4.7-inch iPhone 7 will not feature a dual-lens camera setup, although the technology is likely to see its way onto the larger, 5.5-inch handset. First to delve into extensive detail about Apple’s work on dual-CCM imaging system was Ming Chi Kuo, himself — indicating that the solution will incorporate two 12-megapixel sensors, one of which will sport an optical image stabilization feature and wider field of view, while the other will reportedly boast a 2-3x telephoto lens.

However, as Kuo notes, “supply constraints could limit initial production to a special iPhone 7 Plus version.

Last but not least, the report all but echoes the sentiments that Apple is looking to axe the standard 3.5mm headphone jack — and could perhaps be filling its space with a second speaker to enable stereo sound output. This would be a welcomed addition to the iPhone, at least for when users are trying to watch content in portrait orientation. By omitting the standard headphone jack, Apple is also opening the door to the possibility of a thinner Lightning port.

It’s widely believed that Apple, following the company’s usual smartphone refresh cycle, will release the ‘iPhone 7’ at a special media event later on this fall. And, of course, in the interim, we’ll continue to keep you updated on the latest and greatest iPhone 7 rumors and developments.
