Unlike its competitors Samsung and Sony, Apple has yet to come up with a waterproof smartphone. However, all of this may be changing in the near future. Recent reports show that Apple has patented internal components that would speculate a new waterproof smartphone is underway.

Instead of focusing on a waterproof casing, Apple’s patent has a method of waterproofing internal components. This integrates a “hydrophobic coating with the electromagnetic interference shields used to protect sensitive electronics” according to 9to5Mac. This ensures that the phone will be waterproof without compromising the design of the phone.

Apple consumers have expressed that they would like to see waterproof iPhones in the future, and it seems like Apple is finally responding. By protecting the inside parts, your phone has a better chance of surviving an accidental drop in the toilet or dip in the pool.
