Apple has been working on multiple HomePods behind the scenes, and the mini won’t be the only one in the lineup for long.

Apple could be releasing an “iMac-like HomePod” that would compete with the Google Nest Hub in 2022 or 2023. This would add more options to the lineup, and Apple may call it the HomePod Max.

This HomePod will also receive color options and would be Apple’s first device specifically built for the home with a screen.

Apple is also said to be working on a hybrid between the HomePod and Apple TV, which is an odd combination. I totally thought this would be a soundbar, but updates on this, according to the people in the know, say that “it is going to run a version of tvOS and could be released anytime soon.”

I would agree that in 2022 we’ll get a new HomePod model since in October 2020, we got the current HomePod mini, and one year later, colors were added. This shows that Apple isn’t going to release a new HomePod mini model for a while, so I imagine it’s preparing to add to the current lineup with either the tvOS device or the HomePod Max.

Apple also has plans to bring another traditional HomePod model to the market. It is said that “this one won’t be a disaster for Apple, and they may do yearly updates if all goes as planned.”

It was also stated that this device would not reuse any Mac hardware components like the original HomePod using the late 2013 Mac Pro “trash can” as its foundation. If this is just a regular HomePod model, Apple could call it the HomePod (2nd generation).

Apple is positioning its HomePod lineup the same as the current AirPods lineup, and the old iPod lineup, which will be gaining some new life thanks to Apple’s gaming plans. The question is will Apple do much better this time around than the original HomePod? If the HomePod mini is any indicator, it looks like Apple is ready and able to bring it back.
