4 New Devices to Be Revealed at Apple’s Sept. 12th Event
Use the right arrow to see 4 new devices we expect to be revealed at Apple’s September 12th event.
Earlier this morning, The Wall Street Journal published a report indicating that Apple has set in stone September 12th as the day it will launch a number of the year’s most highly-anticipated products, including the company's oft-publicized iPhone 8 flagship.
While we’re still waiting for the company to send out official press invitations, news of an early-September special event timeframe have circulated before, and so we can essentially be assured this will be the day. Interestingly, the WSJ report states that Apple is vying to hold the event at its all-new Steve Jobs theater at Apple Park. Most recent footage of the site’s construction progress, however, shows that Apple’s 120,000 square-foot underground auditorium might not be ready in time to be packed with spectators on September 12th.
In a fallback scenario, Apple could always hold the event at either the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, or at its “Town Hall” auditorium located at Apple's 1 Infinite Loop campus — both of which have previously served as venues at which Apple has launched major products. Regardless, wherever the company decides to hold its special event, all signs point to it being a big one.
4 iPhone 8
Undoubtedly, the star of the show will be Apple’s 10th anniversary iPhone flagship. Often referred to in daily news cycles as ‘iPhone 8’, the vastly redesigned device is expected to feature the most major, top-to-bottom overhauling in the history of the iPhone.
It will boast first-ever features for Apple devices like a nearly edge-to-edge OLED display measuring 5.8-inches. Also onboard will be some form of wireless charging, advanced IP68 dust- and water-proof certification, upgraded camera, internal components, and an all-new laser-assisted 3D/AR camera system to facilitate biometric security and lightning-fast authentication. As far-out as it sounds, the iPhone 8 will also be audaciously priced at over $1,000 for some variants.
3 iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus
Not quite ready to drop $1,000 or more on a new iPhone? Uncertain about embracing a totally new form-factor? We feel you there and that’s why we believe you’ll be happy to know that alongside the more premium-priced iPhone 8, Apple will be introducing two, more modestly upgraded iPhone 7 replacements — the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus.
Now, while we all know the iPhone 8 is going to steal the thunder, let’s not be so quick to discount the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus. Though they’ll boast the same 4.7- and 5.5-inch LED/LCD displays as their predecessors, the iPhone 7s lineup will reportedly gain True Tone ‘True Color’ display technology, as well as upgraded cameras, the same powerful A11 SoC and wireless charging capabilities as the iPhone 8. Oh yeah, and they’ll cost as much as a couple hundred dollars less, too.
2 Apple Watch Series 3
We’ve been hearing rumors about its far-out ‘modular design’ and advanced diagnostic health applications for months now, but it was just recently reported that the actual next-generation Apple Watch (ingeniously dubbed ‘Apple Watch Series 3’) will embody a more familiar form-factor than previously thought.
Granted, we don’t know many of the major technical details or specifications, reports have so far suggested that the Apple Watch Series 3’s most noteworthy selling point will be its inclusion of LTE wireless connectivity — allowing the wearable, for the very first time, to operate independently of an iPhone. If there’s anything else “new” about the Apple Watch Series 3, we’ll just have to wait until September 12 to hear more about it.
1 4K Apple TV
The last Apple TV set-top box was released back in October, 2015, to much fanfare. With the increase in household usage of 4K televisions, however, Apple has in a sense been prompted to ‘follow the current’ by releasing a 4K-capable Apple TV update.
Rumors about the existence of such a device began surfacing earlier this year, but the device's imminence was all but confirmed just a few weeks ago when its name was discovered in one of the major HomePod code leaks. Earlier this year at Apple’s WWDC 2017, Tim Cook told the audience his company would have more to say about Apple TV and tvOS 11 later on this year, and so let's just hope there's a good show in store for September 12.
