The Mac has become a staple in many households, but for a long time, it was too expensive for some.

It’s true, Apple computers tend to be more expensive than PCs, but the price includes OS X and many useful apps. iMovie, Pages, and iPhoto are powerful tools for projects and that’s one of the reasons why creatives rave about Mac.

Even so, not everyone feels comfortable shelling out the hundreds, even thousands of dollars for a Mac. Apple’s answer to this problem was to design a smaller and more affordable computer.

The Mac Mini is for people who are interested in transitioning to a Mac or are looking for a second computer, but have a tight budget. It’s also a great solution for college students. There are three models for the Mac Mini: 1.4GHz, 2.6GHz, and 2.8GHz dual-core Intel i5 processors, all of which are capable of boosting their processor speeds when the computer’s workload increases.

The base model includes a 500gb hard dive, 4GB RAM, with Intel HD 5000 graphics. It can be configured with a faster processor, more memory, and a larger capacity hard drive, if necessary but remember it’s not upgradeable post-ordering.

The Mac Mini is like a micro-sized laptop without a monitor, allowing one to easily move the computer from one room to the next. It has one display port and one HDMI port. This provides a convenient way to use a computer monitor or a TV. Apple designed the display port to allow various adapters for DVI and VGA connections.

As with most Mac computers, the Mini works with the Apple remote, quite a convenient tool for college students in their dorms. It can be used with various programs, such as iTunes, which allows you to change music tracks without using a mouse or keyboard. Of course, you can use any keyboard or mouse you want, either via USB or Bluetooth.

Even at the base level, the Mac Mini performs well. The Intel Processor provides enough speed and power to run most programs with ease. This isn’t specifically a gaming computer, but you can generally run casual games using the lowest graphic settings. If you can afford it, you might want to opt-in for the solid state drive (SSD) versus the standard disk drive that will help speed up booting and accessing files across the board.

The Mac Mini is a solidly designed, portable computer, that is priced affordably. If you are looking for the ultimate combination of power and portability, the MacBook Pro is probably the best bet. However, if you need a less expensive option that can perform most tasks efficiently, the Mini Mac is the perfect computer.

If you are new to the Mac and don’t want to spend a lot of money, the Mac Mini is perfect for you. Just supply your own monitor and input devices.
