Verizon’s Hidden Unlimited Plan for iPhone Costs Only $40 Per Month

There’s a new, secretive, and inexpensive cellular provider on the market — and now, almost anyone with an iPhone can sign up with them.

That carrier is a new wireless startup called Visible, and it was formed by ex-Verizon executives. The company is owned by Verizon and is covertly funded by the larger telecom firm, but it operates independently.

Most notably, Visible offers something special: an unlimited plan on Verizon’s top-tier 4G LTE network for just $40 a month — which includes unlimited calling, data, texting and mobile hotspot service.

While Visible first emerged on the scene earlier this year, it has remained a relatively exclusive and under-the-radar affair. It launched with little marketing or advertising, and potential subscribers needed an unlocked iPhone and an invite to sign up for the $40 a month plan.

New users should check compatibility on the Visible website. Visible is available on the vast majority of iPhones from 6 and above, and works with iOS12, as long as the device is compatible with Verizon’s CDMA network.

Unlike other carriers, Visible does things a bit differently. You don’t walk into a store or call the company to sign up for a plan — in fact, the firm has no physical storefronts. Instead, you just download the app and sign up. Visible will then send you a SIM card to pop into your iPhone.

The carrier seems tailor-made for the younger market — right down to the fact that it accepts PayPal or Venmo as primary payment options and no credit check is required to sign up.

It seems like Verizon’s answer to options like Google’s Project Fi or lower-cost prepaid carriers like MetroPCS or Cricket Wireless.

Still, the $40 a month unlimited plan does come with a relatively big caveat. Namely, subscribers are limited to throttled data speeds of 5Mbps. That’s not extremely slow, but it’s far from the fastest.

On a side note, Visible says it won’t slow down your data speeds based on your usage. But Visible subscribers will be de-prioritized during times of network congestion.
