Apple just announced a much-needed upgrade to the Apple TV system. The next-generation Apple TV 4K will be more powerful and showcase better picture quality on your TV than ever before. Not only that but there’s a new Siri remote with a new design and even more features.
Apple TV 4K Now Runs on Better Apple Silicon
The new Apple TV 4K now runs on the all-powerful A12 Bionic chip. This allows the system to support high frame rate HDR (High Dynamic Range) and Dolby Vision. This lets the new Apple TV 4K show smoother animations at an incredible 60 frames per second.
Apple is currently working with video providers like FOX Sports, NBCUniversal, Paramount+, Red Bull TV, and Canal+ to start streaming high frame rate HDR.
Additionally, you’ll be able to play your Dolby Vision videos that you record with the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max through the power of AirPlay. Apple enhanced AirPlay to support a higher frame rate, so you can watch your Dolby Vision videos at 60 FPS with no issues at all.
More Accurate Colors with the Help of the iPhone
The new Apple TV 4K also has a novel color balance feature that lets you use the iPhone’s light sensors to automatically adjust the TV’s color balance based on industry-standard specifications.
This helps to deliver more accurate colors and better contrast to the screen without changing any settings manually.
An All-New Siri Remote
Apple upgraded the Siri remote with more controls and sensors to make navigating Apple TV easier than ever.
This new aluminum Siri remote comes with clickpad controls that offer five-way navigation. The clickpad is also touch-enabled, which means you can swipe it for better control.
The outer ring of the clickpad supports circular gestures that transform it into a jog control to find scenes more accurately. Additionally, Apple moved the Siri button to the side, similar to the iPhone.
New Apple TV 4K Price and Release Date
Apple TV 4K will come in two different models, a 32GB and a 64GB model. The 32GB version will start at $179, and the 64GB will go for $199. Both will be available to preorder on April 30 and will ship in the second half of May.
