With the 2024 Major League Soccer (MLS) Season nearing its end, Apple has quietly dropped the price again, reducing the standard subscription to $9.99 for the remaining few months and letting Apple TV+ subscribers sign up for free.
The regular 2024 MLS Season ends with a final 14 matches on Saturday, October 19, 2024. However, there will still be lots of excitement after that, as the playoffs begin in late October, culminating with the MLS Cup 2024 match on December 7, 2024.
As with last year, the MLS Season Pass provides unlimited access to all regular season games with no blackouts, plus full playoff coverage, so it’s a great time for even casual soccer fans to jump in, especially for folks who already pay for Apple TV+, either directly or as part of an Apple One bundle.
Apple TV+ subscribers will still need to sign up separately for MLS Season Pass, but you won’t be charged for the remainder of the 2024 season. The catch is that the plan will renew at the full annual price early next year — likely around February — so be sure to cancel before then unless you want to continue into the 2025 season. Fortunately, that’s as simple as cancelling any other Apple subscription.
This is the third time Apple has reduced the full season price for MLS Season Pass this year. In early May, new subscribers could get a 30% discount, paying only $69 for the remainder of the season. Apple then cut that price to $49 at the end of June, the season’s midway point. It did something similar last year for the 2023 season, but this latest September price drop is a more surprising change.
Apple has always made MLS Season Pass available at a discount to Apple TV+ subscribers, who pay $79 instead of $99 for the full season pass or $39 instead of $49 for the midseason pass. With the remainder of the season now going for only $9.99, it makes sense that Apple TV+ subscribers are still getting a similar discount, which translates to “free” at this point.
Note that Apple is also still offering the $14.99 monthly subscription, even though it makes no sense for anyone to opt for that anymore, so be careful to avoid that and select the “Season” option. The monthly price has remained unchanged from the beginning, although it wasn’t unreasonable in May and June when folks might have only wanted to try MLS Season Pass without making a longer-term commitment.
However, Apple has also offered plenty of trial opportunities this year. In March, select customers received one-month trial offers, and then a few weeks later, MLS superstar Lionel Messi offered a one-month trial for everyone on his Instagram page. Apple has also run free streaming weekends, where folks can enjoy every MLS match without signing up for anything.
This has led some to speculate that Apple may be struggling to draw in MLS subscribers. While Apple hasn’t shared any specific numbers about how its multi-billion dollar MLS deal is going, most industry analysts believe it’s doing fine. Gaining more subscribers is never a bad thing, so it’s easy to see why Apple wants to promote it. This time around, it’s also a nice perk for its loyal Apple TV+ fans.
