Apple may be running into issues getting iPhone XS and XS Max devices into the hands of customers on time, according to a new report.
The Cupertino tech giant sent an email advising some customers that their orders won’t be ready for pickup during their original check-in times. The email cites “last minute logistical issues,” which the company is “working quickly to resolve.”
APPLE: If your #iPhone XS or Apple Watch pickup is delayed, you may just need to hold on until the afternoon: The Apple Store is advising some of its customers electing to pick up their #iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max orders in-store that they are unable to… https://t.co/tmMH27ixqn pic.twitter.com/JpJjJSXioP

Apple apologized for the delay and said it will notify customers by email when their order is ready for pickup.
On the other hand, the number of people actually impacted by those logistical issues is still fairly low, according to several media reports.
There’s also the fact that the delay for in-store pickup may not be very long. For many users, Apple Stores across the globe will likely have remaining stock to fulfill pick-up orders later on today.
Today’s email closely follows reports of users getting hit with delayed UPS shipping estimates on Thursday. According to some users who are having their devices shipped to them, the delivery estimate has been pushed until Monday, Sept. 24.

For an unclear number of customers, that shipping estimate may be up in the air, according to at least one Twitter user.

Though it’s worth noting that many of these users told MacRumors that the delayed UPS shipping estimate was an error, and those estimates have returned to Friday, Sept. 21.
Still, anonymous sources within Apple told AppleInsider that an unspecified issue has led to a less-than-expected stock on launch day — even moreso than in previous years. They added that the situation should be worked out later today, at least for in-store pickups.
It isn’t clear what’s causing the pickup or shipping delays, but it’s worth venturing that the two events could be related.
On the other hand, if you preordered an Apple Watch Series 4, you’ll probably be able to get your device today. As of the writing of this article, there doesn’t seem to be any delays for those who preordered the new wearable.
Apple announced the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max at its Gather Round event last Wednesday, with preorders opening up on Friday, Sept. 14. Today, Sept. 21, is the official launch day for both devices, as well as the Apple Watch Series 4.
