J.P. Morgan Chase on Wednesday announced the rollout of cardless ATM access at nearly all of its 16,000 Chase Bank ATMs, allowing customers to register their compatible devices and access a full suite of banking features using their phone in lieu of inserting their plastic card into the machine.

The announcement, which was first reported by Business Insider, not only marks a continuation and near completion of Chase’s previously announced initiative, but officially brings America’s No. 1 largest consumer bank in step with its rivals, Bank of America and Wells Fargo — both of which have already employed similar cardless access at thousands of their ATM locations, nationwide.

“Cardless ATM access allows customers to access Chase ATMs using an eligible Chase debit or Liquid card that has been loaded into an Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay mobile wallet,” the banking-giant said on its official Cardless ATM Access landing page, adding that “Once you have successfully loaded your card into your mobile wallet, you no longer need to have your physical card to make transactions at Chase ATMs.”

According to Chase, users who register their compatible mobile phones will be able to access the same suite of ATM features — such as making deposits, withdrawals, balance inquiries, and more — without having to physically insert their debit card into the terminal.

With Wednesday’s announcement, Chase has effectively evened the score with its closest competitors in the consumer banking sector. Wells Fargo, Bank of America and others have previously announced deployment of similar cardless ATM solutions at over 10,000 locations nationwide — and will likely continue that rollout in the months and years to come, as cardless ATM access remains one of the most oft-requested Apple Pay features.
