When the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were released last September, sales were record breaking. Within 24 hours of availability, over 4 million pre-orders of the phones were taken.

In the first weekend of availability, Apple sold 10 million of the phones. While many speculated that the incredible sales were due to Apple offering larger screens on their phones the first time, it appears as if the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus may be poised to meet or beat the sales Apple posted for their last release.

In a statement released to the Wall Street Journal this morning, Apple spokesperson Trudy Muller remarked that customer “response to the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus has been extremely positive and preorders this weekend were very strong around the world.”

Customers who order an iPhone 6s today may have their phone shipped on the launch date of September 25th, but customers who order some models may face a two to three week shipping delay. Demand for the iPhone 6s Plus, however, has been “exceptionally strong” – most models face a shipping delay of three to four weeks.

Apple is looking to launch the two phones in 12 countries on the 25th, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Singapore, the UK, the US, and China – the latter of which was not included in the iPhone 6 launch last year, and may partially account for the strong numbers.

The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus were both introduced last Wednesday, September 9th, at an Apple press event in San Francisco, CA. Although the phones are aesthetically nearly identical to the previous models, both the 6s and the 6s Plus boast a large upgrade in components.

The phones feature new, stronger casing and displays, as well as new A9 processors, extended RAM, and upgraded front and rear-facing cameras. The phones also feature “3D Touch” displays – pressure sensitive screens that react differently to soft touches and deep presses.

The phones will be available on September 25th in Gold, Silver, Space Gray, or the new Rose Gold color. The 6s retails for $649, $749, and $849 for the 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB models respectively. The 6s Plus retails for $749, $849, and $949 for the 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB models. All models are currently available for preorder at the Apple online store.
