Just because iOS 27 is right around the corner doesn’t mean Apple is finished with iOS 26. Granted, we shouldn’t expect any big changes or updates in the coming months, but the company still has a couple of things in store for us.

iOS 26.6 is a perfect example. While this software update is still only in beta, there are already some hints of what we’ll see in the final release, expected to arrive later this month. There have also been rumors of an important change Apple has been working on that hasn’t shown up in the betas yet — but that we might still see before this update launches. Neither of these is huge, but they’re what we can expect while we’re waiting for the big launch of iOS 27.

iOS 26.6 Is Getting an Alert If You Block Too Many Contacts

Blocking random phone numbers is something we all do, but Apple thinks some people might be doing it too much. According to MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris, the new iOS 26.6 beta reveals a message that you might get when you’re reaching the maximum number of blocked contacts.

“Blocked Contacts Limit Reached: You’ve reached the maximum number of blocked contacts. To block additional callers, remove a blocked contact in Settings.”

The good news is that probably most of us will never see this message. While Apple hasn’t really confirmed what the maximum number of blocked contacts is, some speculate that it could be over 20,000. That’s more numbers than some of us need to block in our lifetime. Still, if you block too many people, get ready to see this message.

Apple Might Add a New Anti-Theft Feature

There have been rumors that Apple is working on a new anti-theft feature that might make its way into iOS 26.6 if we’re lucky.

This is basically an “anti-snatch” feature to protect your iPhone and personal data if a thief grabs it while it’s unlocked — a trend that’s sadly becoming far too common as thieves discover how much more valuable unlocked iPhones are on the black market.

If someone has snatched your iPhone while you’re using it on the street, then you know how much of a lifesaver this feature can be.

This feature will use your iPhone’s hardware sensors and software algorithms to detect if someone has grabbed your device and run away with it, ensuring the iPhone automatically locks itself so the thief can’t get hold of your information. Combine that with the ability to erase your iPhone remotely and the Stolen Device Protection feature, and you guarantee that all your data will be safer than ever, even if you never get your iPhone back.

Apple wouldn’t be the first to create this feature, as Android has had its own Theft Detection Lock. Google says that this feature uses “AI, your device’s motion sensors, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.” So we can assume Apple will use something similar for its own feature.

Android phones also have an Identity Check feature that requires certain biometrics to verify your identity. While the name focuses more on verification than anti-theft, this is essentially just Google’s version of Stolen Device Protection, which has been available on the iPhone since iOS 17.3. Both features work in much the same way, requiring biometric authentication — like Face ID on the iPhone or a fingerprint scan on Android — before you can adjust any critical security settings outside of trusted places.

What Else Can We Expect From iOS 26.6?

As we mentioned, iOS 26.6 will undoubtedly be a small software update, as Apple is focusing most of its efforts on iOS 27 right now. So besides these two features, we only expect Apple to fix a few bugs and to make some performance improvements to the iPhone. That’s pretty much everything to expect from this upcoming software update.

iOS 27 Is the Main Focus Now

Right now, Apple is more worried about making iOS 27 as stable as possible, so iOS 26 won’t be getting much love anymore. Expect some small changes and improvements along the way, but the real new features won’t come until the release of iOS 27 during the fall.

The good news is that if your iPhone already supports iOS 26, you’ll also be able to download and use most of iOS 27’s new features.
