Apple on Tuesday announced the release dates for this year’s batch of software updates, including iOS 13 and macOS Catalina. But it did so in one of the weirdest ways possible.

In an unusual move, Apple didn’t announce the release dates for its 2019 software updates at its annual iPhone event. But in the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro press releases and its software preview pages, the company did quietly reveal when you’ll be able to download the new software updates.

iOS 13 & iPadOS Release Date

iOS 13 is a major update to Apple’s mobile operating system and it adds some oft-requested features for the platform. iOS 13 will launch to the public on September 19.

That includes a new systemwide Dark Mode, overhauled Reminders and Photos apps, optimization improvements for a faster experience and a new, less obtrusive volume HUD. Apple Maps has also been updated with an all-new “Look Around” mode.

It also introduces a number of security and privacy-related features, including a new Sign In with Apple feature that helps keep your data away from third-party apps and new location and permission options.

It’s also worth noting that Apple is releasing the first point update, iOS 13.1, on Sept. 30 with “new features.” Presumably, the quick release is related to the weirdness that occured over the iOS 13 beta testing cycle.

On Sept. 30, iOS 13.1 will also be debuted alongside iPadOS, a new iPad-specific operating system built on the foundation of iOS. It addition to iOS 13’s features, iPadOS also features new multitasking capabilities, tighter Apple Pencil integration and desktop-class browsing.

macOS Catalina Release Date

Apple is taking its Mac platform out of the desert and to the Southern Californian coastline with macOS 10.15, or macOS Catalina.

The update features a slew of under-the-hood changes, including a system called Project Catalyst that should make it easier for developers to create cross-platform iPadOS and macOS apps.

macOS Catalina also spells the end of iTunes. In its place, there will be new standalone Music, Podcast and TV apps. Device management will be done through the Finder app.

It also features a revamped Photos interface, Screen Time, and a new Find My app that will allow users to find devices that aren’t connected to the internet. A new Sidecar feature will let users turn an iPad into a secondary display for their Mac.

In the wake of its September keynote, Apple has updated its preview page to say that macOS Catalina is coming in October. It hasn’t specified an exact release date, however.

watchOS 6 Release Date

Apples upcoming watchOS 6 platform will add a number of new capabilities and features to the company’s flagship wearables.

New health content is front-and-center. There’s now a new Cycle Tracking feature, Activity Trends platform, and a Noise app that will let the Apple Watch detect and warn users of dangerously loud environments.

It also features several more autonomy features that’ll make the Apple Watch much more independent. That includes a full-fledged App Store and the ability to install apps and update software without an iPhone nearby.

As usual, there are also new watch faces — although some of them are restricted to newer Apple Watch models.

watchOS 6 will drop on Sept. 19, alongside iOS 13.

tvOS 13 Release Date

While more muted than iOS 13 or macOS Catalina, Apple’s tvOS 13 will still introduce a nmber of new features.

That includes much higher Siri integration, a full-fledged App Store, and an overhauled content viewing and discovery experience.

It’s unclear when tvOS 13 will be released. It could debut on Sept. 19, Sept. 30 or in October. Alternatively, Apple could launch it in November alongside Apple TV+.
