Now that it’s 2016, it’s time to take a look at what we’re expecting to see from Apple for the year. While we’ve already looked at what we want from the iPhone 7, we haven’t looked at the the most important piece of the puzzle, the software that the iPhone will run on: iOS 10

So what will iOS 10 look like? Will it be totally overhauled?
Here are a few of the features we want to see from iOS 10.

Siri Improvements

Siri is not a bad personal assistant by a long shot. In fact, it’s a very good one. But improvements can always be made.

In fact, we expect Apple to make improvements to Siri simply because they always do. Speculation suggests that this time around Siri will be improved by being able to handle voicemails. Not only that, but it may be able to tell callers why you can’t pick up the phone, even transcribing messages into text so that you can read them in loud places without picking up the phone. It will be somewhat like a receptionist.

The voicemail service will reportedly be integrated into a new service called iCloud Voicemail, according to recent reports.

Making 3D Touch An Important Feature

3D Touch is cool. Like, really cool. In fact, other phone manufacturers are slated to offer their own 3D Touch copies within the next year, simply because of the impact that the new input feature is having on the smartphone industry.

But cool isn’t really good enough. While there are a few ways that users can take advantage of 3D Touch in the iPhone 6s, its not really that important of a feature, it just makes a few things more convenient.

We would like to see Apple allow users to do some truly new things using 3D Touch – features that weren’t really possible before. While we know that it can’t be so important that users without it can’t use their phone properly, there has to be ways in which 3D Touch can be more deeply integrated. We’re expecting iOS 10 to show that off.

Apple News Being Your Primary News Source

It’s not like there’s anything wrong with Apple News, and while it has some great publications, it has a long way to go.

It’s likely that Apple will start to make more partnerships with other news publications, enabling it to offer a wider palette of news sources and making it a more rounded offering in general.

It would also be nice to see Apple offering a more expanded interface for Apple News, and while it’s nice that it has its own app, it would be even nicer if it was expanded into the leftmost menu in iOS. This is something that could enable users to access their news quickly and easily.

Support For Multiple Users

While the Android world has gone ahead with multiple users, Apple has really kind of ignored that. Most people wouldn’t expect multiple user accounts on their phones, however the feature could really come in handy on a tablet, especially when that tablet is being shared among family members or friends.

Offering multi-user support in iOS would allow different users to set up their device the way that they want to set it up, having their own apps, accounts, and so on. This would make using a device across a family much more convenient, as well as more private and personalized.

The Ability To Change Default Apps

Ok sure, this one probably won’t ever happen, but that doesn’t stop us from wishing it would. Apple’s apps are great, but sometimes third-party apps are better.

It’s important to note that in some cases there are ways to change the default apps in iOS, however it’s not easy. In some apps, users can head to the app settings and choose to make that app the default app. What we want, however, is for Apple to offer an interface to change default apps.

Conclusions

iOS 10 is sure to be a great new operating system whatever it looks like, but some features are just past due. If Apple implemented these five changes, we would certainly be happy.
