YouTube TV Arrives on Roku, ‘Coming Very Soon’ to Apple TV

Google’s YouTube TV has finally made its way to Roku, and there are plans to bring the app to Apple TV in the near future.

The live TV streaming service has proven to be a popular choice for cord cutters through its first year. And its addition to the ever-popular Roku platform is pretty much perfect timing with the upcoming Winter Olympics, the Oscars, and the Super Bowl.

The new app for Roku will have full support for YouTube TV’s catalog of major broadcast and cable networks supported regions. That used to be just a handful of cities, but YouTube TV has expanded to over 80 markets across the U.S. comprising about 80 percent of the country’s population. It also sports the service’s personalized recommendations and unlimited cloud DVR, among other features.

The app is now available to download on the Roku Channel Store.

YouTube TV was first unveiled in April 2017. The service costs $35 a month, and includes a package of more than 40 live TV channels such as AMC, ESPN, Bravo and the Disney Channel. It also features local favorites as well, like ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC.

According to TechCrunch, the YouTube TV app is now supported on the following Roku devices. (This is most, but not all, Roku devices.)

• Roku Streaming Stick
• Roku Express
• Roku Express Plus
• Roku Premiere Plus
• Roku Premiere
• Roku 4
• Roku 3
• Roku 2

Though initially available only on PCs, smartphones, and tablets, the YouTube TV app has gained support for a much wider range of platforms, including the following:

• Roku (as of today)
• Chromecast
• Xbox One
• Android TV
• Samsung Smart TVs (2016 and 2017 models)
• LG Smart TVs (2016 and 2018 models)

In addition to the currently supported platforms, a YouTube representative said that the YouTube TV app will be coming to Apple TV “very soon.” While we don’t have an exact date currently, Google had previously announced that the app would make it to tvOS within the first quarter of 2018.

In the meantime, Apple TV users will need to stream YouTube TV via AirPlay.
