Rumor has it that Samsung is working on a new smartphone with a clamshell design, codenamed “Veyron.”

Samsung has been pioneering flip smartphones, and seems to believe that the design of these phones can accommodate high-end specifications, according to Tech Times.

The Veyron would be a spiritual successor to last year’s SM-W2016, which featured 3GB of RAM, a 7420 chipset and an 16-megapixel camera, according to Samsung’s website. The phone also featured a gorgeous metal and glass construction. It’s likely that the SM-W2017 will carry many of the same specifications, with obvious improvements.

The Veyron would also incorporate many of the features of Samsung’s flagship phone, the Galaxy S7 — like the phone’s Exynos 8890 chipset, a (yes, lower) 12-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a selfie shooter camera, according to the International Business Times.

The SM-W2016 also featured wireless charging, and it’s expected that this capability would be included in the Veyron.

It’s important to note that most of the information regarding the Veyron comes in the form of rumors. Samsung itself has not mentioned working on a new clamshell phone, and has not currently offered any sort of official statement regarding the Veyron.

The Veyron’s predecessor was released in November of last year. So it’s reasonable to assume that, as we get closer to the end of the year, more information will surface.
