The full trailer for Apple’s Brad Pitt-starring vehicle F1 dropped today, offering a peek at the Hollywood sports drama that provides an inside look into the world of Formula 1 racing and the people in it.

The film, which will receive an international theatrical release on June 25, and in domestic and IMAX theaters on June 27, was made with extensive involvement from those in the Formula 1 world, so hopefully the film will provide a fascinating inside view of the racing world, in between the emoting by actors.

The movie stars Brad Pitt in the lead role, along with several other stars, including Javier Bardem, Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Kim Bodnia. Top Gun: Maverick’s Joseph Kosinski directed the film, which was written by Ehren Kruger, and the score for the film was written by legendary German film score composer and music producer Hans Zimmer.

The trailer offers a good look at the action in the film, as we get a look at the inside world of F1 auto racing, and the people behind the scenes who develop, work on, and drive Formula 1 race cars.

While the film is a work of fiction and not a documentary, several personalities and teams from the Formula 1 will appear in the movie, which comes at a time when interest in Formula 1 racing is on the rise, at least when it comes to filmmakers. Netflix also has its own documentary series about the racing series, “Formula 1 – Drive to Survive,” which is now in its seventh season.

“F1” is said to be Apple’s most expensive film to date, with a production budget of over $300 million. The film’s release comes as Apple is committed to cutting spending on content for its Apple TV+ streaming service, where F1 will wind up following its run through the theater circuit.

Apple is working to control costs in its entertainment division, with plans to scale back on big theatrical releases and reduce the budgets for most of its films, to keep them under $100 million each. However, we’ll likely still see big-budget blockbusters like F1 from time-to-time.

In November, Bloomberg reported that Apple will begin licensing its original films to other streaming services, providing a way to earn more money and improve its content’s visibility.

An 2024 Apple job posting said the company was looking for a candidate that could “develop and implement a global strategy to enhance revenue for Apple TV+’s award-winning original content off-Apple platforms.”

Apple CEO Tim Cook and services head Eddy Cue have also reportedly told the Apple TV+ team to reduce film and TV series budgets as they work to improve the financial performance of the service.

Apple is reportedly going ahead with plans to build a 536,000-square-foot Culver City, California facility that will serve as headquarters for 3,000+ employees by 2026. However, writers, producers, and actors can expect tighter budgets than they may have previously had to deal with.
