The holiday shopping season has been upon us for some time and two of the biggest US wireless carriers have been ramping up their deals on what is arguably the flagship smartphone of the year, the iPhone 7, in order to divert shoppers in their direction. We’ve written up a quick overview of the two promotions for your perusal.

AT&T Launches Buy One Get One Free Promotion

Last week, AT&T launched a flashy buy one get one free deal on high-end flagship smartphones, including the iPhone 7, Samsung Galaxy S7, and LG G5. If you buy one of the aforementioned phones, you are eligible for up to $695 in credits spread out over a couple of monthly billing cycles. So, for instance, if you get the iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus on AT&T, you are eligible to receive a free 32GB iPhone 7 through bill credits.

According to AT&T, “customers can buy one and get one free after up to $695 in monthly bill credits on some of our most popular smartphones when they buy both on AT&T Next or AT&T Next Every Year with eligible service and add a new line.”

The promotion is ideal for those of you who are looking to get yourself and another a smartphone as a gift. It lasts through December 24, which is fast approaching.

Verizon Launches Free Trade-In Offer

Not to be outdone, Verizon is offering a free trade-in deal that allows customers to receive a free iPhone 7 in exchange for a recent smartphone. What sets this promotion apart is that the promotion covers the $800 iPhone 7 Plus, which is usually excluded from similar promotions from other carriers.

You need to have a high-end flagship to trade-in to be eligible, and while Verizon has not provided a comprehensive list of acceptable phones, according to Droid Life, their Black Friday trade-in deal covered the following: “Apple iPhone 6s, Apple iPhone 6s Plus, Apple iPhone 7, Apple iPhone 7 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung Galaxy S6 edge, Samsung Galaxy S6 edge +, Samsung Galaxy S7, Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, Samsung Note5, LG V20, LG G5 and Moto Droid Turbo 2.”

The cost of the phone will be spread out over 24 monthly billing cycles, in order to keep you loyal to Verizon.

So Who Has the Better Deal?

Clearly, the Verizon deal is more attractive if you have an eligible phone to trade-in because you come away with a free phone, whereas AT&T requires you to make an actual purchase. Moreover, AT&T’s recent regulatory woes and criticism over questionable billing practices (in which it charged customers for unwanted services) means it has a lot of groveling to do before it can win back the trust of consumers.
