Last May, Apple officially acquired Beats Electronics, creators of the famed Beats headphone series, and Beats Music, the subscription streaming service for $3 billion. Apple has been working hard on revamping the streaming service and it appears as if the fruits of their labor will be made available sometime this summer.

Online reports posted yesterday have stated some of the plans for the revamped service, which will not share the Beats Music name, will function similarly to popular streaming service Spotify. Plans are to “deeply integrate” the service into the iOS operating system, and will function seamlessly with iTunes and users’ iTunes accounts and libraries. Users will be able to search for and stream any song or artist in the iTunes/Beats catalog, also allowing users to add songs to their personal libraries. The subscription service is rumored to cost $7.99 a month, $2 cheaper than competitors Spotify and Google Play Music. Completely designed by Apple, the service will undergo an aesthetic makeover, as well, featuring a look that is more streamlined with iTunes and the iOS operating system.

This new service could pose a significant threat to other music-streaming services. Already integrated into the operating system, users may find it more convenient to use than searching out third-party alternatives. Although very few official details have been released, the service certainly looks very promising from what we’ve seen and heard thus far. As always, stay tuned to iDropNews for the latest updates on everything Apple related.
