Some Apple Vision Pro users have taken to Reddit to share images of a clean-cut shear in their headset’s front glass, and they say it’s for an unknown reason. The Vision Pro’s front glass is a single sheet cut to act as a lens for the tracking cameras.

As you might imagine, the precise engineering required for the device does not leave much room for tolerance or errors. This could be the reason behind the complaints of the cover glass cracks. Currently, we’re seeing Reddit posts sharing images of similar cracked sheared glass at the nose bridge.

Each of the posts says users left their Apple Vision Pro connected to the device’s battery pack, storing it overnight. Some think that the issue may stem from charging the headset with the soft cover on while in the Travel Case, possibly causing a problem with the glass overheating, causing expansion, resulting in a crack in the weakest point of the glass.

At this point in time, we’re not seeing similar crack-related reports in other forums, such as on the Apple Support forums.

So far, the crack surfaces as a sudden shear in the nose bridge, which is likely the weakest part of the glass mold. When AppleInsider contacted Apple Support about the issue, they were told they would have to pay the $300 AppleCare deductible to have it repaired.

If a user did not spring for AppleCare, they will need to cough up $800 to have the crack repaired.

While this is just a small sample of users, it is concerning that the crack appears in a similar location on all of the affected headsets. It is possible that a small number of headsets may have slipped past inspectors, leading to the potential for the clean-cut shear in the affected headset’s front glass.

Apple has yet to comment on the issue and will likely remain close-lipped about it unless a greater number of reports begin showing up. As suggested by AppleInsider, affected users should contact Apple Support and request that their case be escalated to spur an investigation of a potential defect in the device.

Users should document exactly what they did before the crack appeared. If more users share their experiences with Apple, and it’s discovered that this is a widespread issue, Apple could be pushed to create a special repair program to remedy the issue.

AppleInsider has confirmed that Apple hasn’t yet seen any Genius Bar appointments related to cracks without the headset having been dropped. The publication checked with 24 stores, mostly located on the East Coast of the United States. With 200,000 units reportedly sold, it seems that if the issue were more widespread, we would have seen more complaints across social media.
