Just about a day after it was confirmed that a dead body was discovered by authorities on Apple’s 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, California campus – the Silicon Valley tech-giant has released an official statement in hopes of clarifying the scope of yesterday morning’s events.

Several deputies of the Santa Clara County, California, Sheriff’s department reported receiving a call at around 8:35 am local time on Wednesday — indicating that there was a “person down” on the grounds of Apple’s 1 Infinite Loop headquarters.

Though preliminary reports suggested the death was caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Coroner’s office has yet to divulge any additional autopsy findings. All we know is that the victim was a Hispanic male, possibly an employee at Apple, who is now being investigated more thoroughly at the Santa Clara County coroner’s office.

Soon after the story broke, however, several other, related stories began trickling in — alleging that there were additional victims in the shooting, that one woman had been injured in a separate altercation, and so on and so forth. However, by later on Wednesday morning, almost all of those stories had been debunked by authorities as simply being unfounded and untrue.

Now, however, in the midst of all the calamity, Apple has officially come forward with a press release on yesterday’s events — indicating, among other things, that the victim was, indeed, an Apple employee.

“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of a young and talented coworker,” an Apple spokesperson told Matt Keller, a reporter with local ABC affiliate ABC 7. “Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends, including the many people he worked with here at Apple. We are working to support them however we can in this difficult time.”

At this time, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s department is being mum about releasing any additional details surrounding the case. Neither the man’s name, nor cause of death could be confirmed by the coroner. However, considering how Apple has already openly confirmed that the victim was a current, Hispanic male employee of the company, perhaps his identity isn’t much of a secret within the walls of 1 Infinite Loop?
