A recent report from the Korea Times states that Apple is looking to hire away experts in battery and chip technology from Samsung.

Citing an “unnamed Samsung official,” Apple is offering increased pay and greater independence to Samsung experts in battery and chip technology. This report comes just after news that Apple is being sued by lithium-ion battery makers A123 Systems for allegedly “poaching” employees, and rumors that Apple was doing the same to employees at electric automobile company Tesla Motors.

With Samsung expected to manufacture the next generation of Apple’s chips (the A9 chip) for future iterations of Apple’s iPhone and iPad, it would make sense that they are looking to bolster their in-house chip-making efforts. The focus on recruitment of battery experts, however, leads to a bit of conjecture. It is possible that Apple is looking to improve battery performance of their mobile devices, but this report also comes amid rumors that Apple is looking to build an electric car in the near future.  The accusations from Tesla Motors and A123 Systems, both known for their batteries for electric automobiles lend credence to these rumors.

Although these reports are still unconfirmed, Apple is clearly working on some new and exciting technology. As always, stay tuned to iDropNews for the most up to date news on happenings at Apple.
