As Hurricane Ida leaves a devastating impact on Louisiana, CEO Tim Cook has taken to Twitter to pledge Apple’s support following the catastrophe.

At least one person is reported dead in New Orleans, and that number is expected to rise in search. In addition, over 1 million are without power in Louisiana alone.

According to AP News, Ida is expected to have less financial damage than Hurricane Katrina, with the insurance industry losing around $10 billion, much less than Katrina’s insured losses of over $90 billion.

It’s not unusual for Apple to donate to natural disaster relief efforts. Cook recently tweeted it would donate money to Haiti following a disastrous 7.2-magnitude earthquake.

Unlike some past donation announcements from Apple, the dollar amount and dispersion of money to aid the Hurrican Ida impact are unknown.

In 2020, Apple shared that it was donating all of its earnings from the documentary film “John Lewis: Good Trouble” to the National Civil Rights Museum and National Museum of African American History and Culture.

That same year, Apple stated its donation of $10 million to the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 fundraiser.

Cook’s announcement regarding Hurricane Ida relief and recovery is exclusively on his Twitter account as of now.
