Apple has announced to developers that they can now begin submitting their new and updated apps for the soon-to-be released iPhone Duo.

Submitted apps will have to go through the usual App Store review process, so developers should consider submitting them sooner rather than later if they hope to get app approval by the day of the iPhone Duo’s release, which is landing in stores on Friday, October 23, 2026.

While we’ll certainly see a massive wave of apps adapting to the iPhone Duo’s folding abilities over the next few months, having a compatible app ready on day one will give developers a serious leg up to capture that initial launch hype.

That makes it vital for developers who believe their iPhone Duo apps are ready for prime time to submit them for approval as soon as possible; the App Store review process doesn’t exactly travel at the speed of light, and the queue will only get longer.

As noted by Mactrast, Apple is telling developers to recompile their existing apps with Xcode 27.1, which brings development support for the iPhone Duo. That alone should be enough to ensure apps take advantage of the full screen, although the company told devs to use Device Hub to “visualize how your apps behave on iPhone Duo across all poses and orientations.”

Developers who are submitting a new version for the iPhone Duo are required to submit updated screenshots, as well as updated app preview specifications.

Updated screenshot and app preview specifications are now available for the latest Apple devices, including iPhone Duo, so you can showcase your app at its best across orientations. Explore design guidance and get downloadable templates to help you build your App Store assets, including new product page headers and search result assets, as well as your app previews, screenshots, and In-App Events. Visualize how your screenshots, product page headers, and other metadata look on your product page on iPhone Duo with the new preview tool in App Store Connect.

Developers should pay attention to one particular detail that hasn’t been mentioned before. In its news post, Apple states, “Starting April 2027, any apps or games submitted will need to include screenshots for iPhone Duo.” This means developers will be burning the midnight oil the next six months or so to ensure their new apps and games have iPhone Duo-compatible features.

Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026. The new foldable iPhone, the first of its kind, boasts a 5.4-inch outer display when closed, opening up to a 7.6-inch inner display. The new device provides an expanded area for viewing video content, while also providing more screen real estate for gaming and multitasking. A special nano-texture finish minimizes glare. The iPhone Duo is powered by the new A20 Pro, the same chip that powers the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, both of which are already available in stores.

iPhone Duo pre-orders begin at 8 a.m. ET on Friday, October 16, although customers can begin making their pre-order selections on October 12, effectively saving their pre-order so it’s ready to go as soon as pre-orders open. The first iPhone Duo pre-orders will start arriving in customers’ hands on Friday, October 23, 2026, the same day the foldable shows up in stores.
