Apple announced its new Magic Keyboard with Trackpad in March, along with its updated iPad Pro series. Apple didn’t provide a precise launch date for the keyboard, only stating that it would be available sometime in May. A pre-order page showed up recently at Amazon and suggests the keyboard may be ready to ship starting May 30, 2020.
The product page for the Magic Keyboard with trackpad appeared recently at Amazon’s online storefront both in the US and the UK. While the US version states “this item has not yet been released,” the UK version lists a release date of May 30, 2020. These pages clearly are not complete, though. It lists some of the keyboard specs, but it lacks a description with the product highlights.
This is the first time that we’ve seen a specific date assigned to the keyboard, but it’s uncertain how accurate this date may be.
Some retailers generate a product page with minimal details and a filler availability date that does not reflect the actual shipping date. This dummy date will remain in the listing until the manufacturer supplies the retailer with the correct launch information.
The new Magic Keyboard with Trackpad was explicitly designed for the new 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models that debuted in March. The keyboard-trackpad combo is designed to take advantage of the new mouse and trackpad support added in iPadOS 13.4. It brings a Mac-like functionality with two, three, or four-finger gestures, right-click support, dynamic pointers, and more.
Pricing on the Magic Keyboard with Trackpad starts at $299 for the 11-inch model and $349 for the 12.9-inch model. Not only are the two keyboards compatible with the 2020 iPad Pro models, but they work with the 2018 iPad Pros as well.
Regardless of the ship date, customers can pre-order the keyboard on either Amazon’s US site or UK site and will receive the keyboard when it is finally launched.
