5 Big Takeaways From Apple’s WWDC 2026 Keynote
After months of waiting and speculation, we finally got to see what Apple had in store for us during its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) keynote on Monday.
And this year, instead of showing us what's new with each specific software update, Apple basically threw a bunch of announcements at us, as pretty much every new thing that the company announced will be available across most of its operating systems.
Despite all the new things Apple announced, some people have found this year's presentation to be unremarkable. Of course, that was probably by design, as it seems this software update will focus more on optimizing Apple devices than bringing a bunch of new stuff.
Still, just because it was a bit underwhelming doesn't mean there weren't some cool announcements. Now that the dust has settled, read on for five highlights that stuck with us after the presentation.
A More Optimized iOS 27

One of the biggest announcements for iOS 27 was how much more powerful it will make your iPhone. According to Apple itself, iOS 27 will make all devices faster across the board.
It also gave a couple of impressive examples. For starters, it was confirmed that iOS 27 will open apps up to 30% faster than iOS 26. Likewise, right after you take a picture, you'll see it pop up in your library up to 70% faster. And files will transfer over 80% faster via AirDrop.
These are all impressive numbers, but, to be fair, we'll still have to test it once the full version of iOS 27 is available, as early betas are always poor performers.
Still, a faster iPhone is always great news, especially because Apple also confirmed that all iPhones that currently support iOS 26 will also support iOS 27. That's right, even your older iPhone 11 will get the benefit of a new, performance-focused update.
More Parental Controls (Your Kids Will Hate It)
Apple talked extensively about its new parental controls. And while that doesn’t sound too exciting (especially for folks without kids), it is a big step forward for child safety.
With iOS 27, parents will have have both more control over and more insight into what their kids are up to on their devices — what they watch and who they talk to. After the update, a parent can choose to get an alert on their iPhone whenever their youngster wants to visit a new website. The parent will be able to take a look at the website and decide if it's appropriate or not. Likewise, if a kid tries to start a messaging chat with someone new, the parents will need to allow it beforehand.
Additionally, iOS 27 will introduce Time Allowances, which let parents choose how much time a kid can use an app during the day. This will allow you to create a schedule for weekdays and weekends, so your kids don’t spend too much time browsing social media or playing games.
While some of these features have already been available in Screen Time for years, iOS 27 promises to streamline everything and make these controls more accessible for parents.
AI Is Making Your Apps Smarter

As you can expect from Apple (or any tech company these days), the main focus of the presentation was AI.
Yes, we’ve heard all about AI before, but Apple is adding it to some of its most popular apps this time around. For instance, Safari will be smart enough to automatically sort all your tabs. If you have a bunch of them open for a specific purpose, like a trip, the app will put them all together, so it’s easier for you to go back and forth between them.
There’s also a new Notify Me feature that makes Safari monitor specific web pages for you. You just tell it what you’re waiting for (like when a registration is open), and you’ll get a notification once that happens.
The Passwords app is also getting a huge upgrade. Currently, the app lets you know when your passwords might have been compromised, which is already a great feature. But with iOS 27, the Passwords app can go to any eligible website with your compromised or weak password and change it for you.
Other apps will also be improved by AI. We’ll have to test it ourselves to see if these features actually work, but they all look very promising — at least on paper.
A New Siri App
Another huge announcement during the presentation was the introduction of Siri AI. This is a new and smarter Siri that uses AI to provide a more personal experience for you.
If you feel like you’ve heard that before, it’s because you have. Apple basically said the same thing about Siri two years ago at WWDC24.
Still, it seems like Apple will actually follow through on upgrading Siri this time around since, unlike last time, it's already up and running in the first developer beta.
Apple also confirmed that the improved voice assistant will be joined by a new dedicated Siri app that will basically work much like ChatGPT, letting you ask Siri anything by voice or text with a conversation history to let you find everything you’ve asked before.
Besides the new app, Siri is also getting all the smart features we’ve heard before, like personal context, on-screen awareness, and the ability to get information or do actions across multiple apps. Basically, everything we’ve ever wanted from Siri.
Tim Cook Says Goodbye

At the end of the presentation, Tim Cook gave a brief speech about his time as the head of Apple. Whether you love him or hate him, this moment will probably be the most-remembered highlight of the presentation, as it’s his last WWDC as the CEO of Apple.
“Getting the best products in the world to deliver experiences that enrich people’s lives has always been our North Star. It’s been the honor of a lifetime to help advance that mission with teams whose creativity, care, and conviction continue to make a lasting difference in people’s lives.”
Tim Cook became the CEO of Apple in 2011, and he will be stepping down from the role in September, handing over the reins to longtime hardware engineering chief John Ternus. Still, Cook is technically moving up, not out: he'll still very much be part of Apple as the new executive chairman.
The Future of Apple Is Here
Even though the presentation wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, Apple still gave us more than a few great announcements that reflect what the company will focus on for at least the next year.
As long as Apple manages to deliver on its promises, we’ll get smarter apps and the more powerful Siri we’ve all been waiting years to see. Of course, this has happened before, so we’ll have to wait and see if we actually get all these new features in iOS 27.
